Sally rooney books are the epitome of "the emperor's new clothes"

Been in a rough reading slump lately, luckily Jeff VanderMeers new book, Absolution, just came out and I've been reading that. Hopefully I can continue after I'm finished with that. Also "watch Star Trek and don't be a fascist" in a pretty good motto to live by!

i went to a book fair here in Belgrade and was so excited when I saw Intermezzo, but it cost 26euros... which i just couldnt afford. :(( so instead I read Abramovic's Walk Through Walls. and it was great. I love her and especially everything up until and including Balkan Baroque. Although now I really become more and more disconnected from the bohemian personalities if I can call them like that. I remember being totally in love with Patti Smith's books for example, but after reading The Year of the Monkey, I just can't digest them anymore it feels like. So distant from what I can relate to, although some aspects I'm still totally in love with. Thank you for your videos. I really like them and I get so many good film and book recs! :)

26 Euros for a book! Abramović sounds like a really intruiguing artist & person and I think about her performance piece Rhythm 0 sometimes - never seen it only read about it but it's still scary af!! Thank you for watching and I hope I continue to share films and books that interest you

I’m here! I finished Intermezzo. Don’t bother. From an autistic perspective I found it really uncomfortable and horrible that Peter is so horrible to Ivan for what are clearly autistic traits but not only is it never confirmed that Ivan is autistic- it’s actually mentioned early on by someone asking Peter if he is and Peter is just no he’s just fucking pathetic (not verbatim / I can’t remember what’s said but that’s the jist of the entire book)

Thank you and sorry that it made you feel that way!! I have an autistic relative and peters behaviour really really irked me and it also annoys me when authors write characters with neurodivergent traits but never actually follow through with decent representation!

I will have to dust off my Salem's Lot and give a read. I am in the middle of Earth Abides by George R Stewart and finished City by Clifford Simak. I have the the same thoughts on stream of consciousness . . . it seemsfrom my experience that it only has utility if you are looking at your own; otherwise what a mess but I haven't read that one. I played WoW with my co-workers at my Geeksquad store. I then moved on to and have lost many years to Eve Online so I limit my gaming. I am feeling the need for an IRL rpg. TNG and DS9 are my favorites

I feel quite the same about stream of consciousness writing, which is interesting because in theory I should like it, but I find it makes the narrator entirely unlikable and uninteresting. It's interesting that you don't like it either. Being Twin Peaks and Lynch fans, we should like stream of consciousness because it's sort of has a similar feel. But we both hate that writing style. Weird.
