That Morays are mostly harmless surprised me; my mom is from the Cayman Islands, and is absolutely paranoid about the idea of getting to close to one's hole and losing a limb, because apparently once they grab something, they do not let go, and the arrangement of the teeth make it very difficult to tear free.

for those wondering about the whole tying their bodies into knots i believe that they do it to rip things apart and basically move the knot from the base of their body all the way to their head and use the knot itself to push against whatever it is and pull their head back through the knot thus giving them a lot of leverage by applying force and pulling away at the same time. i’m not a scientist obv, it’s just a theory :)

I think we were all disappointed in 2020. I had a massive heart attack in 2020 and in the ambulance I wasn't thinking, "I might die" I was thinking "Oh no, they are taking me where all the Covid people are." I did die, but was resuscitated, and I did not get Covid. When my grandmother had a heart attack in 1979 she was in the hospital for weeks. I was in the hospital for 2 days.

I heard a story once about a sunken warship in the pacific. It's very popular among divers and scrappers and over the years has been being slowly dismantled for souvenirs and things like pre-atomic steel which is needed to construct MRI machines. Anyways one time this guy went down there and was swimming through the ship when he found a room full of many many large shiny brass artillery shell casings in a magazine. As he was sitting there wondering how these things had not been looted yet an absolutely massive Moray eel stuck his head around from behind the shells and started to stare him down. Thats why the shell casings had not been looted even by relatively impoverished locals: Because they had been claimed by this enormous eel which was now guarding them like a dragon.

Well, AKTUALLY, the reason moray eels have jaws like a xenomorph is.. well, because a very clever artist/designer knew about moray eels and their fancy throat jaws and designed their titular creature after the eel. But you all knew that.
@unistrut Жыл бұрын
The original Alien was designed by Swiss horror artist H.R. Giger, and in his book describing working on the original Alien film he describes it as a "long tongue like an anteater". The original design didn't even have teeth, it was a much more like a syringe. It also would have been difficult for Giger to have been inspired by the moray eel since Alien came out in 1979 and the extending action of the jaws wasn't truly understood until 2007.
