Even if it's the "smart" thing to do, it also says a lot about his character. He's an old and respected figure in the community and always tries to give as much of an unbiased opinion/response as he can. Even when the oda fanboys were complaining about the bug abuse, harassment etc and why he should have his HC status restored, Boaty sympathized with what happened but gave a clear response as to why he shouldn't without bashing anyone. Regardless of whether or not you agree with him, he always responds in a way that you can respect his opinions/takes because he's an honest and down-to-earth kind of guy. He could have easily joined the hate bandwagon and tried to cancel the baldy if he wanted to with little repercussions if it failed.
