I mean, yeah, you could practice the chords forms or fingerings, but how would you know if you're doing so properly? Without at least the sound feedback, you can be muting most of the open strings and you wouldn't know.
@everlastingsaturnalia5 жыл бұрын
I'm a player of over 14 years, and I don't own one of these. I found it because I Googled it, imagining the utility of such a device and that it might exist. Everyone saying it looks useless because "it makes no sound" must not yet understand that visualizing the guitar neck is more than half the battle. I'm getting really into visualizing modes right now, having pretty much mastered the shapes of the modes of the major scale, and so now I'm looking into memorizing the modes of the harmonic and melodic minor scales. The thing is you can practice all seven modes of a given scale over a span of about 6 frets. Part of me really wishes this thing had 12 frets but I could condense my practice to 6. I guess my point is that when you get into practicing visualizing shapes of scales, you don't really need the auditory feedback to run that kind of practice. I'm often out and about and have 20-30 mins to spare and wish I had a guitar neck that I could visualize scales on (using my fingers), so something like this might actually be pretty useful. And as for chords, even when you get beyond basic chords, you could still absolutely practice all sorts of extended chords and unfamiliar inversions with this thing. So I don't really get the hate. It's not supposed to make sound, and seriously folks, a great deal of mastering guitar is a mental process involving visualization challenges, so something like this could actually be useful and I don't think it should be written off immediately as a shit product. If the product is low quality, that's one thing, but the idea of a portable practice guitar neck is actually a decently handy idea.

Ah come on mate, what the hell are you talking about, practicing a guitar without actually hearing what you're playing? Knowing the chords to a song doesn't mean you can play it or feel it the right way. That shit is useless as much as those fingertip guards are. If you can't feel the string with your own skin, what's the point then?
@rolfedrengen5 жыл бұрын
Some months ago I developed a skin disease, so now I wear practice glove when playing. I got use to it over a day (not feeling the strings). I had to put the guitar aside for 2-3 months and as a result my fingers grew weak and slow, so now I struggle with sore fingers after just half an hour of play and not moving them fast enough. I've begun using finger grip trainer, but they won't help me get my fingers up to speed. I guess the finger grip trainer can help me develope muscles this thing could help me with the fine muscle memory. This way (with this thing) I hope to recover to a state where I can play a full set on stage within a shorte amount of time.

I was so excited when mine arrived in the mail. I came to this channel to learn how to practice chords, only to find out that It’s not designed to actually make a sound! What a waste!!
@MoSec94 жыл бұрын
This is not supposed to be a substitute for a guitar. It's for practice when you can't have your guitar. You can use it as an exercise when you're watching tv or waiting for the train or on the airplane...anywhere you can't use your guitar. I wouldn't throw it away just yet. Get a guitar and start practicing and when you find yourself in the car trying to remember notes on the fretboard, you will be glad you didn't throw it away. Also very important for getting fingers used to stretching and separating, which is probably one of the most frustrating things for beginners.

In my opinion it doesn't matter how many times someone tries to justify this being useful, it's still extremely useless in my mind. You need to be able to hear what you're playing to be able to tell if you actually made a mistake or not. Playing this way allows for a lot of mistakes to go unnoticed and won't help when you pick up an actual guitar. I say you can just buy an ACTUAL cheap guitar for the same exact price on eBay. If it at least made SOUND I would consider considering it. If you're trying to actually learn guitar, then pick up an actual guitar. There are no shortcuts, and this tool is just allowing for bad habits. 2:36 This is probably the most use you've gotten out of it HAHA :D Good video.
