my childhood was weird looking back on it, I played tons of maple but was only ever a merchant...got addicted to Gamba spent everything I could on NX cards from 7-11...eventually got into a sketchy low-life gamestyle where I would go to FM channels that are usually empty, like 16 or something random, and you just wait or bounce around till you see some random high level walking through like he's going to one of the 3rd or 4th level rooms, they were doing something called a Drop-trade, so what you would do is double click them as they pass by, figure out their name and spam find, they would usually go to a vague room, then CC and drop a ton of great stuff, then try to re-log to pick it up on a different account...but the stuff would be gone, the life of a 11 year old maple merchant could get desperate. oh and of course, I was a dexless sin, with that great classic look

If you were ever to do a follow up oddities video I have a few idea's that have always fascinated me: -The concept of Islanders (Players that remained on Maple island forever and tried achieving the highest levels they could) -In an earlier version of Maplestory right before the release of Pirates, there was a feature known as the TRADE shop where players could list an in-game item to sell for NX currency. This is fairly common knowledge. However, I personally discovered a glitch back then where if you typed ?????? (not sure how many ?'s marks, but it was more than 1) into the item search, it would show all Gun weapons before they were even available!! I have never seen this discussed or documented anywhere but I can assure you I did experience it. Maybe it could be tested in a private server? -Forgotten Party Questions like the original Ariant PQ (Catch scorpions, which rewarded the Palm Tree chair), Kerning Abandoned subway PQ (constantly spawning mobs, population control) and Nett's Pyramid PQ (20 waves of mobs, don't let them reach the end the platform) -The addition of previous cash shop only cover weapons that were made into actual in game items with stat requirements. Examples like the Guan Yu Polearm, Liu Bei dagger, Slime stick dagger, Cao Cao Bow, Cupids Bow, and many others. -The forgotten Part-time job system. Up to 3 characters can be locked (unplayable for 6 hours) and assigned part time jobs to receive rewards. Jobs were: Relaxation (EXP), Herbalism (Recipes), Mining (Ore, equipment, recipes), Accessory shop (Scrolls). -The countless Rollbacks to combat the item duplication and hacking epidemic. -Ultimate explorer's. When Cygnus Knights maximum level was 120, you could accept a quest known as Empress Grace. Kill harps for 5 Peridot quest items (took an EXTREME amount of time) and be granted Empress's shout & prayer. Then the quest Ultimate explorer becomes available. It grants you a new Level 50 Explorer character of your class choosing which had exclusive skills including Empress's Might (allows your character to wear items 10 levels EARLY) and a Cygnus class skill relative to the counterpart of the explorer classes you chose. Example: Assassins'/Bandits would get Eckhart's Vampire bat attack/healing skill, I/L F/P Cleric would get Oz's flame gear attack skill etc etc -Forgotten Maplestory PVP. Setup like a PQ, players could use their skills to attack each others (only in specific PVP arena's) to compete for points. Funny enough, before he was banned I met curryishott in this map and uploaded a screenshot to basilmarket! Anyways, @Togain I love the videos and appreciate your curiosity/effort. I hope this list has given you at least 1 additional rabbit hole to explore. As a fellow aging Maplestory veteran, I understand how difficult the lengths are to find first-hand accounts of older Maplestory content. If you like I might still be able to find some super old screenshots that could aide in your videos! Feel free to add me on Discrd: tie_fytapilot Keep up the awesome work!!!

I wanted that stupid palm chair so bad, but as a warrior my accuracy SUCKED had to constantly use sniper potions, and leveled out of the ariant PQ (level 20? Iirc?) before I could get the chair In those days you had to split your stat points between two, you couldn't do a warrior with pure STR or you would never hit anything, had to get some amount of DEX

I don't have time to play but I do enjoy videos exactly like this so I don't have to play at all. There are no other videos like this. Sometimes it feels as if it takes me back in time and I'm still able to feel like I'm enjoying the game back in the days...so please, continue making these videos. Great video. I've got something random and maybe useless to suggest: In the old versions a few NPCs had different names. Francois was Arten, Grendel was Hines, I think that Dances with Balrog was Sitting Bull or something. Perion also had some very oddly shaped maps in its outskirts. Maps with massive random spaces in the bottom of the map you could only reach with teleport. They didn't seem to have any use.

Excellent video as always. here's an idea for a video you can "build" on the background as you do other stuff. something like "legendary anvils" items from times past and events that are just not obtainable anymore and rare. old maple gear for example which just got a reprint, things like the iruvata set (which i think has showed up in gachapon?), and, what made me think of the idea, the visitor set, which was nigh-impossible to get a permanent version of. oh there's also the agent equips. but yeah, a story like that, when you find interesting old equipment like the cutter moon. but truth be told, i'd watch anything you put out. these videos are great, informative, and fill me with nostalgia and a need for more.

9:10 The reason was because stationary mobs were changed at one point to not show their knockback animation, even if you did the correct amount of damage. However, certain skills that marked mobs as targets for other skills to focus on them could still trigger these animations, assuming it wasn't in the middle of an attack or skill animation. A couple examples were using Corsair's Homing Beacon and Evan's Killer Wings. On a side note, in current MapleStory it is now impossible to knock back any boss monster by doing the required "knockback" damage, from Mano to the Black Mage and beyond, though it is still possible to view the knockback animation with certain skills like Rush (if possible) or any type of Bind skill.

I’ve been collecting items in maple for a little over a decade at this point, the amount of information I’ve discovered that the average player wouldn’t know has ever existed is so interesting to me. Typo items, Hacked items, Duped items. Items from character creation zones that had been teleported out with exploits back then. All of which still exist in the game, and some of which I own myself. Even just the “???” Class alone is something a lot of people don’t know about Also my guild leader is the original White lady of Perion. The nostalgia I feel when looking at old conspiracy’s or when I hear the lore of my items is so explosive I don’t know how I could ever give it up. I still go on Hidden-Street atleast once a week!

Regarding the blue whip, when i was playing a bunch of osms private servers way back then (like 42 or 55 were the popular ones) some of them did have a blue whip available as a weapon and i vividly remember being so excited when i found out it existed. Not sure if it was a private server only item, so either someone else had the same idea, was aware of the mystery (?), Or the item was just a really rare/lost exclusive jms item

I have a mystery for you, Togain! I played Trickster pretty much at launch, and I can't find any info about this ANYWHERE--but when they released the R.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N. patch a year or two after, they changed some of the maps. The specific change I remember is that a cave in the Desert/Coral Beach area used to connect to Ghost Blue. Both areas still have caves that look the same, but they no longer connect. IIRC, the cave would bring you to the bottom right of Aquarius. I remember someone befriending my sister and I (who were completely new) in Paradise during a GM event and taking me to the Nora sewers to power level me. When I was a higher level, I remember being confused about the story quests because I had never been to the gate of Ghost Blue!

Can't speak to GMS, but Zakum's knockback animations worked fine on the private servers I played in the 2007-2009 era. I'm thinking they worked normally in GMS as well, it was just really rare to see them because the damage required just wasn't possible then. You could probably look on the Korean web for an old video of a Chief Bandit killing Zak using Meso Explosion to confirm.
