I'm just wondering how preserved these finds were. Sounds like the Sophie Carpenter stuff was at least self uploaded and reissued. Makes me wonder if we're all discovering "Lostwave" music through these old cassette hunts and they wouldn't see the light of the internet without the Archive. Anyway, I get the feeling Paul was a lounge act on a small, low rent, local ship. The autograph is a dead giveaway, sure, but you get the sense that these things were sold in the lobby (or whatever the equivalent is on a boat).

Hmmmm...Lido Shuffle. Nothing says punk like a Boz Scaggs cover. That may have been more appropriate for the Sophie Carpenter album.

Hallucinasia's music was pretty cool, but the vocals were really weak. I was oddly entertained by the Lido Shuffle cover, and Situations Vacant sounds like the theme to a late 80s syndicated sitcom.

The singing on that first tape sounds like someone consciously trying to keep themselves from slurring words together. The second tape gives me Jan Terri vibes if Jan Terri wasn't a total wreck. The third tape was actually kinda sick. Paul Woodson is peak sitcom-core And i'll just say that if Chev Chelios heard Nicole's rendition of Achey Breaky Heart over the radio during that scene in Crank, he would've died instantly and the movie would've ended right there.

The first band reminded me a lot of a poor man's Nevermore, a metal band in the nineties front by Warrel Dane, someone else no longer with else. The punk band, I've heard worse in the thirty years I was in metal bands. Heard a lot a lot of punk, and they were not the worst, but Lido Shuffle should never be covered by a psudo punk band. Ms. Carpenter, a swing and a miss. The next one, oh boy. Why end songs that way. Richard Cheese said you are giving the rest of us a bad name. That is just bad. Thanks for taking one for the team Ben.

Paul Woodson has a nice tenor(?) voice, but really needed a decent producer and obviously a band, which I guess sadly was never gonna happen. His tone reminds me a lot of Gino Vannelli. So much, that I wonder if it was intentional. The MIDI and some of the song choices (Top Hat Medley was horrific) just cheezed it out way too much, even for c.1993.
