Those "Greatest Hits 196x" series of cassettes, LPs, and CDs actually mostly contain re-recordings. You might get one or two original recordings on them. I featured a few of them in my video about re-recordings.

I myself have had nearly every one of those “20 Greatest Hits” compilations (which span from 1956 to 1971, as far as I know) and indeed, the majority of the songs that are included on these are rather poorly done re-recordings of popular songs from that period (although there are quite a few some that are actually the original recordings, though the sound quality does vary).

If someone told me a couple years ago I'd be watching and liking thrifting videos, I'd have been certain they had a stranger sense of humor than I. Yet, here I am. I think it's the 'how the sausage (Archive) is made' aspect, but I now look forward to these.

I'm a vintage Synthesizer /Electronic music guy and those Cordovox Accordions are essentially more like hammond organs than anything else. They also have a TON of tubes inside and are a nightmare to get to function and keep running.

Amongst the Garfield books and joystick video games, I would have absolutely bought that Sony Walkman sitting in that glass case! Thanks for another excellent thrifting adventure!!!

@@OddityArchive Yeah, but somehow I'd imagine disappointed it wasn't something goofy or terrible. Though I did get alternative indie rock from the odd name and use of 1800's style artwork. Surprised it was from the 80's, though. Seemed like a very late 90's, early 00's design aesthetic.

The Tiny Tim album you bought is the one that Tiny said destroyed his career. It was released at the height of his fame on a small label. It has been said that Tiny sang intentionally badly on the record when he recorded it in the early '60's for a reason I forget, but he certainly never wanted it released. The owners of the recordings, of course, realized they could make a quick buck off of it at the height of Tiny Tim mania, and neither Warner Brothers or Tiny was successful in stopping the release.

It wasn't all that long ago when having $100 in your pocket at a flea market or second hand store meant you could buy just about anything. The thrifting videos are always my favourites, but the prices are getting hard to believe.

$10-$15 for those old VHS tapes. Yikes. Most places can't give them away.

If I were a local I’d probably at least occasionally go to 605 Antiques considering the local antique stores never have video games were I’m at.

They didn't notice Cosmo's Factory was broken in half? Was it like that when it was sold or was it broken during the time in the store? Shows how indifferent thrift store staff can be.

@@thekidfromiowa I've unfortunately seen stuff like that at thrift stores and worse. A few weeks ago I saw a record I've been looking for for a while only to find it just absolutely covered in mold.

There is a Brian Wilson autobiography - "I am Brian Wilson" from 2016, I enjoyed it at the time. Someone "borrowed" it and I haven't seen it since... but I'd read it again.

Nice selection of games at the first store (prices slightly better than online averages too). I also saw The 7th Saga in the SNES games, definitely a divisive RPG these days. The Dangtrippers sounded very much like The Posies who were a similar type of band out from the Seattle area and their 1990 album Dear 23.

It's a good thing you didn't pick up that Panasonic book shelf stereo system. The reason is the entire CD charger mechanism is cheap plastic and now that they are pushing 20 years they just disintegrate.

I guess I must be weird-within-weird... I always liked It's a Wonderful Life... probably the only xmas film I like, actually. Meanwhile, I don't like A Christmas Story or the National Lampoons series. I remember It's a Wonderful Life being one of very few movies available on Beta at K-Mart in the late 80s. Was always tempted to buy it, even though we never had a Beta VCR, just to have a movie I liked kn Beta. Wish now that I had.

A Christmas Story and Black Christmas (the original) are both directed by Bob Clark and the guy's sense of humor is much more effective when the film is openly horror.

Moving Pictures are an Australian group, their biggest hit was *What About Me* issued as a single on the EMI-distributed WBE label as WBE-648 in January, 1982. The label owned by ex-Master's Apprentices guitarist Glenn Wheatly who became manager for John Farnham. (13:40) Those names aren't going to mean much to Americans, but then Americans don't really know or care about anything outside their insular little world.
