which is your favorite of my oddly specific interior design yums? or are there any of these that you absolutely hate? curious to hear your thoughts….

The dark green sounds GOOD. I was thinking maybe a plum. I look for vintage but bedding is hard, especially if you want white/ivory without stains.

@@l.m.n.2338 idk if you've seen any of Rajiv Surendra's videos, but he collects wedding sheets (might be a slightly different name, but that's the general idea) because they were only used for one night, rather than as regular sheets, and they were also much more decorative with trim, embroidery, etc if that's your vibe

you really hit the nail on the head! it is so commonplace for other youtubers to lean into hating on things vs loving on them that literally within the first minute of your video, i had already forgotten the premise haha. i thought to myself "idk, i love when nightstands perfectly match the height of the mattress" and then i remembered "gah! that is exactly the point of their video!" subscribed

I watched this video probably a week ago and I feel like it permanently altered my brain chemistry, these are things I've never thought about before and yet you are so right to be so specific about them. Especially the nightstand height, and the sturdy-looking furniture you mentioned in part two. Thank you for speaking your truth 😤

This video is a breath of fresh air. I think what makes a lot of these great is how "human" they seem. Its nice to notice oddly placed/oddly sized art, leather boots that get worn, art made by kids..

I just discovered your channel. Your approach of home design feels so much more relatable than what other says. You also have so many great ideas that I would never have thought of and never heard until now like unexpected art placement. I'm currently buying a house so I'm studying the best way to decorate and furnish it and I think I'll be really inspired by your advice. I'm so glad I've found you.

You are so on point! I am with you on the bedspread coming back! I get the fluffy cloud duvet thing but I'm kind of over it and want to go with a sophisticated Art Deco bed vibe. I also don't need all of my pillows exposed. I want to get an ivory maybe pleated/ribbed bedspread and then have dark sheets and pillowcases underneath. So I get that calm neutral feel but then have a surprise pop of color (also tired of keeping the white linens that are close to my body spot free). Good bedspreads are hard to find so if anyone has a source please, please, please share.
@anticapitalisthomedesign5 ай бұрын
i love that idea and that’s basically my setup right now too with dark green sheets underneath. i’m so over white sheets getting all gross, even when i literally wash them every week. i’m on a thrift store budget atm so i haven’t been in the market for a bedspread, but i’ll keep an eye out for companies with interesting designs, reasonable prices, and good quality & ethics 👍

Love this!! We should all be focusing on what’s good more than what’s bad. Especially in home design, where so much is out of necessity and it’s great if you can afford both fashion and function but not everyone can offer the bat and they shouldn’t have their homes bashed while they’re attempting to improve them!
@anticapitalisthomedesign6 ай бұрын
exactly! if it doesn’t take a lot of money, it’ll take a lot of time & energy, which is another luxury, and some people can’t afford any of that. compassion goes much further than criticism with home design.

I don't think you are being honest. You have made a niche for yourself in the market by putting queer in front of your design. That's all marketing and branding and you are playing the capitalist game as hard as anyone else.
@anticapitalisthomedesign3 ай бұрын
if i’m being honest with myself, i struggled with this, too, initially, but the conclusion i’ve come to is this. branding and selling skills you’re good at isn’t inherently capitalist. two thousand years ago when you brought grain you grew or yarn you spun to market, you were doing the exact same thing, just with more connection to land and community, so it didn’t feel as gross emotionally. it was just how you made your living. you were still carving out a niche for yourself by focusing on + selling what you were good at. under capitalism, the primary (and frequently only) goal is profit, and, yes, earning money / creating a livable wage is absolutely one of my goals for this channel / business. i’ve never made more than $16k/year because i’m autistic + nonbinary and i have trouble finding and keeping “normal” jobs specifically ~because~ capitalism only cares about making the system more money and not about making sure people can live a decent life. some of my other big goals that are genuinely more important than the dollar amount i’m making are to: 1. build community (beyond just online stuff), 2. heal / find my speaking voice + come into my fullest self, 3. become a good storyteller through video editing, 4. help people create homes that foster honest + authentic + radical relationships with loved ones and community (whether by designing their home myself or by educating + empowering people to do it themselves), 5. eventually hire other people who also tend to have a hard time finding + keeping jobs due to systemic eugenics, 6. help be one of the catalysts that shifts our cultural understanding of interior design from bougie + shallow to healing + life-giving, 7. and redistribute corporate dollars (via sponsorships) by traveling around doing makeovers for people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford a designer. i was living in an rv that was older than me without a fridge or running water for a year and a half, so yeah, one of my goals is to make money. everyone deserves a livable wage. but how you approach something is just as - if not more - important than the end goal. i’m never going to be a billionaire. i don’t want that. just because i’m forced into this system doesn’t mean i can’t use the resources that are available to me to critique that system.
