The problem with throwing the sparks at the beelaphant is that you only do about half the damage before the bounce stun. About half the time, you can get the kill before his first bounce attack if you rush. Just walk to the rear before rushing and they will attack the backside.

That’s a good point. I guess the initial attack could be managed that way and then subsequent ones (if needed) can be tossed

Strange that your backpack got emptied. My old save hasn't had that problem and i just checked. Very annoying. You could also use the aether vials to feed the stumpy production 1>6 like the aether discs. It would save your disk and clumps you collect from now on

It gets better. There's an addition to the story. Yeah, I'm not planning on feeding the clumps and pellets into shard making anymore unless I have a *crap ton* of them.
