Oddworld Lore: Morguer is a video about Oddworld lore by pupbenny that takes a closer look at the Glukkon in charge of Necrum Mines in Oddworld Soulstorm.
Oddworld was created by Lorne Lanning who founded Oddworld Inhabitants which has produced many games, Including Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and Oddworld: Soulstorm. I find the Oddworld lore fascination and hope to bring the Oddworld universe to life by telling the story of it and it's characters, creatures and locations so that they can be explained and theorised about by delving into Oddworld theory and the lore of the universe of the Oddworld games!

I found interesting that when Molluck saw the Glukk's limo blimps, he says " That's Morguer's", but then follows it up with "It's that idiot Aslik's", that sounds like Molluck has some sort of respect towards Morguer

Aslik is also highly surprised to see Morguer at the Brewmaster’s to complain. “I thought the bone harvesting business was treating you well?” Even after losing his own shopping depot and Molluck losing his factory, Morguer’s business failing was almost inconceivable to Aslik, showing the reputation Morguer had as a successful Glukkon.

I always assumed Morguer was a shockingly hard worker compared to his kin. I imagine his daily routine was strict and kept him out of his office, forcing his garb to be super tough. Heavy boots, durable coat, that sort of thing. No need for a fancy, flourished office spaces. Very hands-on boss, pardon the pun.

Morguer seems slick and dangerous when he is glaring at others. But when he talks, you see that he still has those wide blunt teeth that all Glukkons have. Just like how when he turns around, his general shape is still Glukkon even if from the front he is unique looking. Still the same species but Morguer is the rare Glukkon who looks intimidating rather than goofy. (Glukkons are dangerous but usually look silly even when in charge of exploiting and genociding the other species.)

@@landonletterman831 Exactly my point. Glukkons are enslaving the Mudokons, mistreat Sligs and other employees and destroy ecosystems. They are dangerous and the effects of their actions are horrifying and scary. ...But they themselves are silly little things that walk on their hands that are disguised as feet, barely do anything with their own hands(feet?) and instead just boss others and are nearly harmless without bodyguards to command. If a killer clown is turning something that is supposed to be silly into a thing of horror, then Glukkons are a horrifying and powerful thing turned into something silly. And Morguer had so much potential (though maybe he survived having taken cover behind Aslik?) as a rare serious threat rather than just an arrogant business boss coasting on the work of others.
@fallatiuso

@@landonletterman831 Yeah, they'd probably be more terrifying if they got rid of those big suits and used jackets and gloves for their arms instead or something. But i suppose that's the point too. When the sligs under the head of Feeco depot (i forget his name) and Mulluck are disrespected and belittled by their superior's but when his chief slig warns of uprising he immediately takes in the evidence he has and realizes its plausible. He may not be kind, but compared to his colleagues he's much more reasonable and intellectual. perhaps thats why he's in charge of Necrum. @@thomaswetzel6796 we only see the "corrupt" aspects. All these systems and organizations rely on functional architecture and machines. Couldn't make profits if your railways and machines are breaking down. Its kind of like the tech world verses the manufacturing world today. Soulstorm brew is like the "new tech" so its related fields can have corruption as long as it makes profit and works. The more established industries are probably much more reliable as they aren't exploiting new technologies or new regions. They make consistent products.

It's still theoretically possible for Morguer to make a comeback. I mean, if Mullock was able to survive a direct hit from a _lightning bolt,_ Morguer might be able to survive a few bullets. Or maybe Morguer lucked out and didn't get shot at all (or maybe only got grazed) and just played dead until the rogue Sliggies left. Edit: I just now thought of something. When the Brewmaster tells Morguer and Aslik that they've been betrayed, it's possible that by doing so, he was giving them (and himself) an out. I mean, _someone_ was going to have to be blamed for all this, and the Brewmaster is the most likely suspect in this case. So Morguer's instinctive reaction to confront the Brewmaster was likely just the beginning of a wave of investigations. But when the Brewmaster insists that Mullock "betrayed" them, it allows for them to shift the blame back onto him. Like you said in your original video on the Brewmaster, he knows his Brew inside-and-out; he knows damn well it wouldn't randomly stop working without good reason. And the story he told Morguer and Aslik was almost certainly his own theory, which (if you didn't know about Abe himself), would make a lot of sense. It was probably also something of a relief for Morguer and Aslik to believe that they didn't have to blame the terrifying (and still very powerful) Brewmaster for all this ruckus, and could instead pin it on the already-maligned Mullock.

Also in terms of Morguer’s accent there is a very strong German influence in Texas. During the Texan revolution against Mexico many of the rebels and settlers were German immigrants and introduced Texas to breweries, Biergartens, opera and classical music. There is an entire region here in Texas called Hill Country where it incorporates both Texan Ranch culture,Texan architecture with German heritage

What I think makes Morguer stand out is that when they remade the Glukkons for Soulstorm to make them more distinct, and thus easier to tell apart, his appearance is very much downplayed. The others will have very exaggerated features, but his are understated, almost alluding to his cold and calmer demeanor.

With how he didn’t believe the news about Mullock I would’ve loved to see them perhaps team up or perhaps have him be the key to giving Mullock a chance to prove his innocence. I like that they incorporated much of the Nazi iconography with the Gluckons and the Magog Cartel. The Pilot sligg wear the Nazi infantry field cap as well as the very Nazi inspired flag of the Magog Cartel yet they also fuse it with the odd world elements. They also added the fact of the brew is kinda inspired by the fact that during The Romanoff rule over Russia that the Tsars would encourage them to drink vodka to keep them from rebelling and such during the revolution Lenin would invoke a nation wide prohibition of Vodka and encourage the people to destroy storages of vodka

It gets you to almost hope that he figures out what exactly is going on, of course he is one of the villains and yet his own investigation that he was conducting would have been interesting to follow as its own side story if Morguer was a more important character to the story.

@@This_side_of_the_internet That, well imo, has mostly to do with the plot needing the betrayal to happen. He does come across as someone who should know well enough to pay his own guards to keep them loyal. The slig more or less are only loyal because they might be treated well. But in this situation the betrayal is shaky since both him and the brew master are in a better position at the time. Molluck is the one currently taking the heat for what's going on, I think most sligz would have been hesitant to side with him seeing as how if the 3 Glukkons were to go after Molluck, and you're one of his employees, odds are that you're going to be investigated as well to see if you had a role in it. But that's just me over analyzing and overthinking this. It's really just what the plot needed to happen.

The comparisons to Imperial officer extras is pretty apt I'd say. If you look at Mulloc, the base form of glukkon design, and compare him to Azlic and Morguer, they basically represent the two ends of the glukkon spectrum. Personality wise, Azlic is lazy, haughty, and in his high standing aloof to all the practical concerns of the cartel's business until they start to whack him in the face. Appearance wise, where glukkons typically have loose saggy skin and flopping cephalopod appendages, Azlic has even more exxagerated floppy lips and wide, saggy eyes along with his curved mantle almost dripping down. Inversely, Morguer almost looks like he has a skull supporting his rigid, almost humanoid facial structure, and even has those hardy studs on his head. Being more practically minded and stern contrasts him from his peer, and if that attire does mean he prefers to directly monitor and maintain his business from the ground level it indicates just how seriously he takes his work ethic.

I agree, the contrast between a brief somber moment of his personality and the prolonged grumpy presidential caricature is ironic! What a huge change of tone they gave to the Saga! I love it but at the same time it worries me! Despite brutal statements, it is a catalyst for greater depth!!! What a redundancy!

I think morger was still suspicious but he didn't care molluk mighta done he might not of but the brewmaster did break out a plan where they back eachother up to get outta this and chuck molluk under the bus and I don't he cared whether or not molluk is innocent at this juncture he has financiers to worry about
