Oddworld Soulstorm (PS5) - Final fight + Good Ending + Credits

First playthrough, got good ending but not perfect (bad Quarma in 3 from 17 levels) Pretty good game, although it has lots of bugs that ruin the experience.

I always felt Abe going through a personal struggle every time I hear him say "we need to know... why she left us... in that, horrible place," like he's finally admitting to himself that the place was hell. He was the Employee of the Millennium at RuptureFarms. He had mostly free access to wherever he wanted. He had a buffer. But when he says that, it's like he finally allows himself to see the evil there. I mean, granted, this was just one day after he discovered the Glukkons were going to use the Mudokons as meat, so it could be him finally processing all of the trauma now that he's safe.

I think it’s very interesting how nearly all of the cutscenes are long conversations with minimal action or music. It’s not what I was expecting, but I actually kinda like it.

The old games were pretty much as cinematic as Soulstorm, I just wish for the rest of the series that they’ll focus more on the gameplay side and cut the cheap deaths

I like to think that Glukkons are normally antisocial with their Slig guards, given their narcissistic, greedy nature. They may trust them, but, not more than business terms. This is the first time Molluck actually is social with his Slig, with that being said, who knows if Molluck will change his demeanour entirely towards his security units. Sure there were other interactions with his Slig aboard his blimp. But never long-term as they’re just meat shields and cannon fodder.

I mostly like the redesigns. Exept that the Gluckons dont have those glowing eyes anymore. Also Abe looks a bit to "clean and healthy" in my opinion. He had those dark eye rings in the previous games and his face looked a bit skinnyer. But I like how they made the other mudokins different from Abe, gives em more personality. Same with the Gluckons (just think it would be even better with the glowing eyes)

During the cutscene in Morguer's office we do see his eyes glow for a brief moment when his security chief mentions the uprising. I don't think the Gluckons look as intimidating without the glowing eyes but I thought that was a nice touch.

I agree about the Glukkons, for some reason they also got rid of the various skin colors too. You had purples and green colored Glukks (Even blue in Munch's Oddysee) along with the standard tan/brown variants. As for the eyes, it doesn't make sense to me that just Molluck has the glowing eyes and nobody else does. It's not like they couldn't have given them differently colored glowing eyes. But hey, at least they gave the Sligs some more screen time.

Call me crazy but I reckon if you're a species of greedy and morally corrupt industrialists that has underdeveloped legs and thus relies on your hands to move you around, I don't think wearing a fancy suit that restricts your movement would help you in the long run. (pun not intended) Nor would ripping off the guards that are in a more advantageous position to you and do most of your work.

They wear those suits to hide the fact how pathetic and gross Glukkons really are. Standing on their arms raises them to be over 6 feet tall (that’s the size of a Mudokon on Oddworld) and those suits are also used to intimidate as well as earn respect from other Glukks across Mudos. I think comfort is the last thing on their minds when their ridiculous lifestyle gives them that much power 😂

The Sligs were always used by the Glukkons. It was clear at some point that the Sligs betray them and i like it.

Money only goes so far. Normally, they were able to break promise after promise because the Sligs always had someone to look down on. But with Abe, he could all of a sudden turn your pal into an enemy and use him to kill you. It is also worth noting that Sligs are put in vats that suppress their brain growth so they are kept stupid. But at some point, the most basic of instinct kicks in when you see your friends kill and be killed by each other because of Abe, and that is survival. And if one side is throwing you to the wolves and one is offering you an escape, you go with the latter.

I think the glowing eyes really only occurs when the Glukkons are in low-light environments. It could also be tied into the more occult nature of Supernatural powers that members of the Glukkon family tree possess. Like those teleporting Gloktigi from Stranger's Wrath. Although from what I can recall, the supernatural stuff is meant to be more closed door, reminiscent of some secret societies in our own world and other fictional settings.

Aw wow...The animation of this game is so beautiful, I love it! I remember when I was a little girl I was nervous about playing it on the PS1 because my Dad used to yelp extremely loud when a slig chased him. Now I started playing New n' Tasty and I really want to gradually get up to this game. I can't stop admiring the quality of art, animation, acting and story lore put into this game that I asked my sister to get my the art of Abe book for my birthday...So sad that this game didn't do well for sales. I'm guessing we won't get a sequel to find out about the Mother? :( Would of been really cool to see more.

@@notchthegreatlion6805 Not to mention that the reasoning behind to why Sam just lets her eggs be used for slave labor is due to the Glukkons using a Shrink on her to keep her happy and productive to making eggs for more slave labor. But who knows. We may get a sequel for Soulstorm by the Legendary Limitless Lucious Lorne Lanning. And maybe a reimagining of Munch's Oddysee.

Look up "Fagments of Silicon (S11E24A): Josh Gabriel is Working on Soulstorm" Lorne explains that Josh was actually the composer.

I find it odd (heh) the credits for Oddysee say Josh was the audio producer and Ellen did the sound design and music, whereas Exoddus says Josh is the sound producer and Ellen Meijers-Gabriel did sound and composition. Perhaps they did some of them together but she mainly worked on sound? Either way, they did a great job with the originals and I get what they tried with Soulstorm, but the originals are much more memorable and distinct to me. Thanks for the info btw :-)

I felt pity when I saw the 3 glukkons get gunned down by firing squad. Technically the ending isnt all that better from the bad ending I mean if the tainted brew got distributed to the factories in time before Molluck blew up Soulstorm brewery then the ending could be better but I doubt they have such efficient piping methods and that they could drink or store all the extra brew before the pipeline fires reached the other factories.
