For some reason, I find the idea of Glukkons consuming/getting addicted to products made from Mudokons more disturbing then Mudokons consuming those same products. I dont know why. I just get the mental image similar to the scenes from The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on Netflix where the Skeksis are all sitting around a big table drinking Gelfling essence, but instead of Skeksis and essence it’s a bunch of Glukkon higher ups drinking Soulstorm brew and snorting Mudokon bone powder through their syphons.

I always thought that the accent was German. It would still fit with the alcoholic theme (maybe more so since France specializes in fine wine's whilst the brew the Brewmaster makes is treated more like beer, which is what Germany specializes in), and would also allow for the stereotype of the "German mad scientist". Edit: With further listening, it does appear as though it's a french accent. My apologies.

I think the marks are the side effects of him drinking his own product, would explain his pure obsession with flavor he's addicted and this can go two avenues for his motivation. 1. uses the flavor argument as an excuse to keep delaying the testing phase to keep getting his fix. 2. In his attempts to perfect the flavor he's become genuinely addicted and now wants to perfect it simply out of self indulgence rather then actually turning a profit.

What I always found interesting in the Brewmaster was how he was simply part of the game without being introduced. Through the game I felt like there was a solid foundation for Dripik, Phleg, and Aslik and you knew them well by the time their stories end. It's so neat to see the bonkers good animation in the cutscenes. Considering the time they were made. Or how the game was made in around a year if I recall. Like the Brewmaster's mouth when he's talking. Someone had to animate all the weird ways it moves as he talks. It's a neat trick to get around the whole lack of mobility issue with this species. So the facial expressions are bonkers in a good way to make up for it. Otherwise it'd be a pretty boring cutscene just on an animation level.

I never really saw the Brewmaster as being in charge. He always was more of the designer of the product. Everyone above him is in charge of their own departments but, he’s just the last figure head that needed to be removed to stop the machine from working. He’s only the main antagonist because he designed the product. Beyond that, I don’t think he had any real power to begin with. He just gets paid more because he invented the product. Going back to how his concept art had a Mickey watch. It was in a way symbolic for how Disney kept on after Walt died. It parallels how SoulStorm/RuptureFarms kept functioning without Molluck. Just because the big cheese is dead, a corporation will always move forward without their leader (whether it’s for the better or worse because money is all that matters in the end).

And then we all truly find out the reason for his work on the brew in Soulstorm. A way to curb any uprisings from the mudokons
@Brianna-eo8nu3 жыл бұрын
That’s why I like to think that the Brewmaster we see in Exoddus and the Brewmaster we see in Soulstorm are two different Glukkons. While both of them are Brewmasters who are obsessed with their brew and getting it perfect, it’s their motivations that make them diverge from one another. While we don’t really get a clear answer for why Exoddus!Brewmaster is so obsessed with his brew, it is heavily implied and can be speculated from his dialogue that he has not only tasted it, but also seeks to perfect its flavour. This would set him apart from many other Glukkons, who don’t care what thier product tastes like so long as it make a profit. Unlike the other Glukkons we’ve seen, Exoddus!Brewmaster seems to ernest;ly and passionately care about his product. Soulstorm!Brewmaster, on the other hand, outright states why he made the brew in the first place; he created it as a way to curb any Mudokon slaves form uprising. If they drink it, they will become dependant on it and never want to leave the work station that provides them with it. If they do decide to try and escape their enslavement or go off the brew cold turkey, the mud will die shortly after. It basically means the Soulstorm!brewmaster is motivated by greed and wanting to keep his Mudokon workforce in line. He probably hasn’t even tasted the stuff himself (a smart move, really, since the version of the brew we see in Soulstorm is so deadly to Mudokons, it’s likely it doesn’t have the best side effects on Glukkons drinking it either), let alone cares what it actually tastes like. He only cares about perfecting the brew as long as it keeps Mudokons from uprising, makes him more profit then his competitors and makes him look like a genius.

I think the other thing is how sure of himself he is and how that leads to paranoia. Like he is so sure that mudokons could never break his formula's addiction to the point where he says its mullocks doing and its an entire conspiracy against him.

I'm not sure I agree with the whole Molluck used be in charge and chain of command analysis here, you kinda have to remember that there are a lot of different places covered in exoddus the first half (disc) covers Necrum mines (and the Scrab and Pyramite area's but that's not important) which is connected to Feeco depot Feeco onwards is covered in the second half (disk). Feeco as suggested by the name serves as a hub or shipping centre between Rupture farms, Necrum mines, Bonewerkz, Barracks, Vykkers labs and Soulstorm brewery. Those are all separate places it's not shown very well but as I understand it when you enter the doorways you are travelling on a train to these places which are more likely to be separate businesses under the magog cartel. The reason they are conferring with VP Aslik in that one cutscene is because he is in charge of Feeco and ultimately has the final say on the comings and goings, he has to deal with a big problem they can't just shut down the trains because that would cripple every business connected to Feeco but he can temporarily restrict travel to and from the brewery because it's ONE route of many and make it utterly impossible for Abe to get to Soulstorm brewery which he guesses (apparently correctly bit of a deus ex if you think about it) is Abe's target. (It's also likely this is the opportunity Aslik spoke of aside from taking over restricting shipping would artificially reduce supply for a product that is high in demand and increase it's value a parallel that has occurred many times IRL most recently RTX30xx for example) So aside from professional courtesy and/or profitable partnership I don't believe any of the head glukkons have any kind of shared leadership or intertwined chain of command it would make far more sense that some other member of the magog cartel would take over, also those other 3 that you see in that cutscene are discussing the collapses of multiple businesses they are likely invested in or own stock in (which abe's of course responsible for) and around them are scrolling screens showing numbers (all red) this is more than likely intended to be a stock exchange type area further enforced by the slig who is telling whoever is on the other end of the phone to sell, They are speculating over the massive loss of stock value abe has just dropped in their lap. Aside from giving Abe the idea to go after the boiler they are serving to convey the fact that what Abe is doing is having massive repercussions further up the hierarchical chain something Lorne Lanning has spoken about in the game awards expo presentation.
@MrBanks20243 жыл бұрын
I have a view of the brewmaster that he doesn't actually care about the quality of the brew in and of itself. This is what he's fixated on in response to the world around him. But it is just one confuguration of the same approach all glukkons have - press those underneath you, profit from their suffering. The quality of the brew (relative to quantity as we know he won't make 20 gallons an hour stretch) is a great barometer of this. But we know it's not the be all and end all that we might except from the brewmaster if we took him at surface value. When he asks how he will get the flavour without tears he does not seek a creative solution but just presses industrial misery harder. The fact that in the end his modus operandi matches other glukkons explains how they could hand control of the brewery to this clearly unstable eccentric when there are other junior executives more in touch with wider considerations around.
@MrBanks20243 жыл бұрын
This view is taken from the bad ending of Exoddus. When he fails to make Abe part of the brew, but still makes him suffer and perish, he actually laughs, rather than bemoaning the loss of his finest ever brew. That was a response the slig clearly expected. He clearly takes visceral delight in "pump it up" too rather than a more restrained approach.
@MrBanks20243 жыл бұрын
He's picked up on things on a more meta level, a qualitative measure on what the executive measure quantitively. Glukkons weigh their success, in reality, to a large degree by how much overall they make their subordinates suffer. This is why he proclaims at the end "it's not fair", because he has achieved flavour 》 industrialized suffering efficiently 》 has done what was a good Glukkon is expected to do. He clearly lacks sensitivity to other consideration such as labour supply and power usage however. This explains why he was never high ranking in the organization, and ended up as a try-hard middle management guy. Senior management must not just perform one function but weigh considerations towards sustainable outcomes. We know this from Aslik, Griffig and Phleg's deliberations.
@MrBanks20243 жыл бұрын
It's also worth noting the brewmaster is probably called this because no one knows or cares about his name. His character is subordinated to his function. For these reasons I'd contest the notion that the brewmaster is creative at all. Even when talking about the flavour he is only concerned with achieving industrial quantities of the exact thing he is expected to a high industrial standard.
