I have an idea Scott. How about interviewing your father and some of the older people your area? Ask them about about the local history, historical events in their lifetime, etc. Perhaps they might have old pictures or newspapers.

My grandfather used to tell ghost stories about chimney rocks when I was a kid. Apparently he used to hang out up there in the 40's.

grew up in Altoona and went to chimney rocks all the time. my mother would take me as a child while we waited for my dad to get off work at the sam ray shops

Beaverdam branch of Juniata River flows through Canal Basin Park. It is formed about 2 miles upstream by the joining of Blair Gap Run, Gillian's Run, and Mill Run. The nearby McClanahan's Co is one of the oldest companies in America. The canal basin is the location where the canal boats were loaded on rail cars for the trip over the mountains on The Allegheny Portage Railroad incline planes (10) to the Johnstown canal basin.

Growing up, we were told of the Indians living up there and the Holliday brothers living at Legion Park, I think the name is, across from the police barracks.

I’ve never heard of those tall structures being the chiefs seat. I’ve always known it as the small flat area that you can go down and actually sit in. You got it at about 32:10.

At 52:10 the canal gate, looked on the PA State Archives files for Pennsylvania Canal Maps and Map Book 8 Page 02 includes "Lock of 8 Feet Lift," n.d. Shows: Elevation, Ground Plan. (4 sections) Appears the rod extends down to 2ft by 2 ft paddle gates that rotate on a center vertical axis. No engineering details noted. Similar detail without notes in other canal drawings books. - edit - 🤓 Found a 49 second video showing the wicket butterfly valve gate partially open at 30 second mark C & O Canal Four Locks Wicket Control Valve Bank - 1840 channel name water Advocacy

It's true about the look out . Holllidaysburg what named for a pieneer holiday.where you are across the way he and his family are buried down in penn farm estates . they were killed by the indian . They watched the settlers and went down and attacked them
