The older I get and the more I play the less I like playing any kind of solo and am really preferring to write music to play to or create with a band. That being said, these drums and cymbals were almost made to sit in a sonic space by themselves and make music.
As for cymbals, I've noticed players who I admire and listen to for inspiration use Istanbul Agop cymbals for awhile. In this case my curiosity got the best of me and I had to get my hands on a set of these to try out. They are some of the most unique and beautiful cymbals I've ever played and I think their sonic character comes through in this solo very nicely.
Gear deets are as follows.

Cory, just found this. The drums DO sound amazing. Although different sizes and construction, they actual sound a lot like my 1965 Rogers drums, which are among the best sounding drum, imho.

I never really loved these drums but I did love playing them. They lack the low end of maple and that ended up being problematic for me when I started mixing. In certain settings these drums shined.

I also run sonor Sq2 and Istanbul cymbals. I really recommend the 15 OM hats and the 22 signature China!

I was actually thinking about those hats and I’ll need to check that China.

@@cpdrumming yeah since I got the hats I haven’t used anything else. They are dark and esoteric but have enough chick and volume for any style of music.

hey absolutely love your playing! I hope this isnt too much of a personal question but i was wondering how you can afford all these expensive drum kits and cymbals. I'm graduating my drum studies this year and the prospects of living decently on gigs and teaching look bleak especially with corona things still going on. Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated

Dude thanks so much! Your question is important and not enough prospective working musicians ask. I went to music school as a non drum set perc major and didn’t finish. After that I worked on getting my drumset chops back and getting gigs. That was eye opening to me because that was the first time the idealism of being a young guy started to wear off. I did what everybody does - I played gigs, taught lessons, taught high school drum lines and did whatever I could do to make money. I didn’t live in a town rife with gigs and I didn’t like teaching so I worked a warehouse job loading trucks to supplement my income. I was married had a baby and needed money and was quickly realizing that money in the music biz was less than consistent. Fast forward, I moved to the Nashville area and my second big realization hit, and that was that I didn’t like pop music and didn’t want to invest a lifetime trying to forge and career in that idiom. So, I ended up working in various fields, settled on working in technology for the last ten and a half years. With that I’ve been very fortunate to be able to keep shedding and playing gigs I enjoy and also have some nice gear. I’ve always been interested in recording so I’ve invested a lot of time learning how to properly record drums and have been mixing my own projects over the last year. I occasionally play gigs out but I don’t have to for survival and that’s cool. Lots of young players loose their love of the game and stop playing altogether. I still love playing and am actively involved in as many projects as I have time for. I hope this helps and best of luck to you!

Hey Cory awesome playing! I saw a comment you made that mentioned Cali, Im near LA and looking for a teacher do you ever do that/do you live in Cali? or maybe you could refer me to someone? I've been playing for years but want to really step it up. Thanks!

I do believe there are a couple of comments from someone in california but unfortunately I don’t live there or even close. I’m in Murfreesboro, TN which is about 30 mins south of Nashville.
