For the rebar you can do 4 verts as support bars, then tie the horizontals to them and drop whole thing in to hole. That avoids tying all that rebar down in the hole and guarantees nothing shifts around when concrete is placed.

I've watched a lot of videos with your Dad, and been so impressed with his knowledge and skill. He must be incredibly proud of you and the way you show the same care, attention and quality of output that he did. Great work. Thank you for showing the world how this sort of work should be done.

I had my sidewalk from the driveway to the front door stamped and colored to complement the house color. Really looks sharp even a couple of years later. Now here is something you would never do in the southern US. I live in Minnesota where we have winter. My asphalt driveway with a slope faces south and the sun melts the snow left over after shoveling while concrete driveways remain icey. My concrete contractor's driveway is concrete colored black and remains ice free. That will be my driveway when the asphalt needs to be replaced. Yeah it gets hot in the summer but it sure beats a broken hip or a cracked skull from a fall on the ice.

Wouldn't it have been a bit easier to build the rebar structure outside of the hole tie it tot he wooden plank and then nail it in ? saves leaning into the hole to try and do it

Yes build a grid outside with 2 or 3 90 degree going up 3 inches below concrete level but they did an awesome job regardless let's appreciate what they did right not focus on what they didn't.

Just a thought on reducing the pain of building the suspended rebar trellis for the stair footers; why not set it up outside of the hole and then lower it down into the footer pit when it's ready? You could hang it from a work horse (or anything) while building it.

I always felt that the broom finish is pretty standard. Done right, it's acceptable of course, but my favorite finish is a rolled slate with some color and sealer. Concrete with the Hauses posted just such a job earlier today. Sometimes you want standard concrete... and you want it to look like standard concrete. Other times you want to get fancy and make it look like it's NOT made of concrete... and some people can really pull this off. You and your Dad included.

Truly enjoy watching the family business videos! You all have incredible knowledge and skill in all aspects of construction 😮😅 ✊. I had one question re the white drain pipes running from the retaining wall. You don’t have to bed the pipe in a small thin gravel!? Or lime rock CA7 like we do in New Zealand 🇳🇿. It’s to prevent any sharp rock or objects damaging the pipes if they move for any reason. I noticed to you just back fill with the dirt

To me, all stamping looks "dated" and hokey and puddles and dirt pool and eventually looks mostly crappy within a year. The nicest look of concrete is a planned, well drained, almost dry after a rain, broomed concrete with polished edges all around, including all cut joints. Maybe it looks sort of "industrial" and not for everybody, but me likey-likey every time I install it or I see it anywhere. 😇

This is a question that l see everyone doing when they start to float. Why in a dead rush to run the float as soon as possible even when the rodded concrete is super wet. Any answer is welcomed. I understand when slab is large area but my finishers leave it so humpy cause it's to wet

I'm curious, if either of you guys have/will have kids, do you plan to have them go into concrete with you like your dad did with you? Regarding finishes: I lived at a place with an exposed pebble aggregate finish. I didn't like it because it was rough on my feet. I like to be barefoot outside. And it was kind of difficult to clean because dirt and moss really caught in it. I wonder if the stamped concrete is that way too? It seems like the sand finish might be the nicest to walk on. Otherwise I'd just keep it plain.
