Hard to believe it's been 8 years. The nostalgia is hitting me like a freight train. Just now really connecting with the video because I was in middle school when this came out lol. I like it, it's tragic but beautiful in a way. When I realized she fell in love with her costar and wanted it all to be a reality I caught myself audibly saying "awww".

Sometimes the world we create is better than the world we live in.
@neverdefinedby9 жыл бұрын
+Simeon Papadopoulos The world that was created for the commercial that was being shot was not real, it was fictitious. This is why the actress was so distraught when they were done filming and the fantasy ended. The world that was created for her in the commercial (fiction) was better than the world she lived in (reality). This is why she was so desperate and anxious to return to it.

+NeverDefinedBy simeon has got it right mate
@neverdefinedby9 жыл бұрын
+Dakota Peterson Simeon is right. The world that one's mind creates, is the world that one lives in. I'm approaching this video from a narrative standpoint. We, as humans, are capable of creating fictional worlds that can sometimes be better than the world we/the author live in. Who exactly said world appears better to is completely subjective.
@neverdefinedby9 жыл бұрын
+Simeon Papadopoulos "Not everything is supposed to be yours" - I think that's exactly why she chose the fantasy over the reality. Not all dreams and fantasies are meant to become reality. Just because you love someone doesn't mean that they will love you back, despite your best efforts. The actor didn't feel the same way as the actress did in the video. With time, the actor may have eventually fallen in love with the actress; but even if he did, the actress has this romanticized fantasy of what the perfect relationship should be like built up in her head. Such a fantasy may have been impossible for the actor (or any other person for that matter) to live up to. So, she decided to choose the thing that she wasn't supposed to have, because it was the thing that made her happy.

She's so amazing at portraying her character. You can see the love in her eyes in every single shot, and especially the scene where she finally realizes its all a set and stares into the camera. For a moment her eyes linger on her partner as he's already focused on something/someone else, you can tell she's hoping that he'll reassure her, or come back to her for a moment... She deserves 90% of the credit for why this video has the impact that it does, it was amazing 🥲

I've got a theory- Instead of this being an actress who falls for her co-star in a music video, what if everything up until right after the proposal was a real relationship, but all of the menagerie of a film set was just a visual metaphor for a relationship that's totally staged and is supposed to represent how he was becoming distant and loveless after a proposal, and her seeing the video inside was her pining for the moments before things started to become fabricated?

Ok. So, In the beginning they were in love, it was perfect. Picture perfect. They were in their own little world where no one else existed. To her, because they were so in love they were the only ones they could see. He takes a picture as "proof" of their love, but they begin to sneak around the house. Why? Because she's his secret, the other woman. They work (as actors on this set) together so no one thinks of it as more. He tells her he wants to be with her forever but it's a lie, fake, and simply an act. Then she notices when other people are around he acts different, distant. She tries to keep his attention, but he's too distracted leading his own life, where she isn't quite as important as she thought she was to him. They take off her make up and she's the real life version of herself. She's kind of afraid to let them take it off, bc this is the version she thinks he likes more. She tries to tell him she loves him but he's not really interested in the real her. So she runs off to the editing room and relives the moments she loves, and continues to believe in a love that only exists on her screen bc in real life it's not actually like that. Our fbs and shit are only an image we make of ourselves. The perfect version, but it's mostly fake, planned to look perfect. She sticks her hand in and looks like a druggie. An addiction to this falsely presented realty. No one really knows the real her, all they know for sure is that she is the girl. The role that girl plays depends on the viewer and what they believe to be true. She's the quiet girl in the corner who just takes it and survives on the false hope. She lets herself be the other woman. Why? She feels alone otherwise...

I actually think there's not that much meaning behind it...it's just supposed to be two actors filming a commercial. You can see how they randomly cut to product placement (the headphones, the phone, the labels on her shoes) because they're shooting a commercial. In it they play lovers, but just like in any acting scenario as soon as the job is done they have no real feelings for each other. However, she's fooled by his acting and ends up falling in love with him. She goes into the computer screen to relive the moment with him forever...I think basically it's just supposed to be two actors shooting a commercial and one falls in love with the other, not all this deeper stuff.

The music video is about love being a commodity. In advertising and marketing they push the ideal relationship will be the outcome if you consume certain products. Why would the video highlight on branding so much? It's also shows how this ideal relationship is also fake- however we're surrounded by it so much through advertising that a lot of people will do anything to live like it's apart of their reality.

this is actually so sad,it depresses me. thank god i'm not an actress and i'll never get that close with hot guys or whatever xD the crush will only be from afar. poor girl,can't imagine being on the weird-stranger-zone after snogging and pretending to be a couple u.u the feels.

Adam G hahaha,thanks,though it's no big deal. but i have so many questions about this video and what happened to her afterwards and if she just became an image or is a real human with body necessities,if she can die,if she can talk to the guy in the video and change things,etc. i need someone to make a movie inspired on this,haha.

Lyrics: I wanna go, so, what'd you say When you gonna let me know If you give a damn about me? 'Cause you got my hands tied In my defense, I always fall for confidence And your compliments look good on me [Pre-Hook] 'Cause nobody knows it better Than the girl in the corner With the Scarlet Letter And while you're watching You may think that she doesn't matter But no one knows you better [Hook] Oh yeah I wanna dance I wanna dance, dance, dance with you- you So, take a chance So, take a chance Oh yeah I wanna dance I wanna dance, dance, dance with you- you So, take a chance So, take a chance Oh yeah [Post-Hook] Oh yeah Oh yeah Oh yeah Oh yeah [Bridge] I need a sign or a signal I've overthought everything I can think of into symbol I need the coat and your jacket And the remnants of your cigarette packet [Verse 2] I wanna go, so, what'd you say When you gonna let me know If you give a damn about me? 'Cause you got my hands tied In my defense, I always fall for confidence And your compliments look good on me [Pre-Hook] 'Cause nobody knows it better Than the girl in the corner With the Scarlet Letter And while you're watching You may think that she doesn't matter But no one knows you better [Hook (Variation)] I wanna dance, I wanna dance, I wanna dance with you- you So, take a chance So, take a chance Oh yeah I wanna dance, I wanna dance, I wanna dance with you- you I wanna dance, I wanna dance Oh yeah [Post-Hook] Oh yeah Oh yeah Oh yeah Oh yeah Oh yeah Oh yeah Oh yeah Oh yeah
