I always considered this sword to be a great example of simple and realistic fantasy weaponry. Really like the attention to detail in this Odin. It may be relatively simple, but still looks great
@reaper_exd74983 жыл бұрын
Wouldnt say realistic. The break in the blade would make it worthless as a sword tbh. But it looked cool AF and i wish it was real. 😭
@artsy_dragon_creations3 жыл бұрын
@@reaper_exd7498 yea that’s true. If it wasn’t split into multiple pieces it would be better, but the overall shape and design is a good example of a functional fantasy sword. Many fantasy weapons either have too many spikes and serrations, or they’re huge and heavy, or they’re just too oddly shaped in general

Highlander is one of my favorite movies of all time, so much so I have reproductions of both of Connor's swords. His Macleod family sword and a cheaper, non-film accurate katana that has the dragon head handle finished in more of a bronze color, not even the right handguard on it, but still pretty cool. Also came with two smaller blades that also had the same handle as the full length katana, but they just cut the handles shorter for each, but kept the dragon's head on the pommel.

The shoulder on the blade is called a ricasso, which is just an unsharpened portion of the blade below the guard. Some large swords turned this into a "sub hilt" with a leather wrapped ricasso and even a secondary guard sometimes.

Now, it'd be a very easy build with the materials available! EVA sheets and some foam clay. Worth a try!

First of all you should place both live action TV series in between the fourth and fifth movie, due to those movies taking place after the series. Second, be warned this series is not known for it's quality in it's movies.
@Panthror3 жыл бұрын
@@strawdog7704 I did specify it was 'all media you can watch'. I also own a novelization of the first episode of the TV series, so I know there's more, but you might be able to watch all this on some streaming service you already pay for, which is why I only put filmed media on the list.
@Panthror3 жыл бұрын
@@Ironlantern723 That's the order you would put it in, but I don't have to. And if you want to go in 'story order', the TV show is set before Highlander IV, so I'd be placing that between the third and fourth movie (and given the release date of the third movie, that story may even be set during the show's third season). The anime comes after the fifth and the animated series after that. (Not accounting for any flashback scenes that shift the timeline.) As for order of release, the live action show comes after the second movie, followed by the animated series, then Highlander III, then The Raven, Highlander IV and the anime precedes Highlander V by a few months.

This might be a pain to do, but I think it'd make things more accurate. For the grips on swords like this, you could use a smaller diameter pvc pipe but squash it some so that it was an oval or pill shape of the right width and align that with the blade when you attach it. The grips on real bladed weapons aren't round and I doubt the movie prop had a round grip either. Just a suggestion for future builds. :)
@saintignatius7143 жыл бұрын
Oddly enough, the sword grip in the movie is round. That is if I'm remembering right. It's suuuuper 80s so accuracy wasn't that important. Look up the backflipping scene, you'll see what I mean lol

I freaking loved the first movie! Okay, you can say what you like about the series, but it kept that love alive and expanded on the mythology. The movie that came afterwards kinda helped add at least one fairly good sequel to the movie collection. @EricJames4293 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong but I believe that the reason for the two swords was that one of them was a special effects version that was created to produce electrical sparks when the Highlander’s Katana made contact and was dragged along the Kurgan’s swords length.
@elwindil85663 жыл бұрын
I believe the chromed blade version is one that was used for the effects shots of the sparking clashes, but I'm not completely sure on that. I know in another film that did similar effects that's something that was used.
