With as impressive as Trouw's effortless facility with her looping accompaniment equipment as well as her deft playing of the multiple instruments with which she loads it are, it's her voice that is ultimately the most arresting. It is always obedient to her decisions and commands, always where she wants to place it, never giving a hint that it will fail her. It is smooth, silky, sensual. In a paragraph of description from another era, the word chanteuse might have been applied. She delivers vocals knowing not only what to sing, but also what to leave out rather than inflicting a distracting barrage of vocal gymnastics designed to impress rather than touch the listener. Elise Trouw always delivers the goods with confidence, maturity and musicality.

Yes. Perfectly articulated and all completely true.

I just hafta add that what you are talking about is a very minimalist musical style, vocals included. If she wasn't so young and attractive physically we wouldn't be seeing as much of her.

@@johnwattdotca I disagree, very few people have mastered and utilised the live looping technique she uses, and so she is heavily advertised by ableton, the creators of the technique, anyone interested in ableton will come across her. Anyone interested in where looping is and going will come across her, the fact she is pretty definitely doesn't hurt, but I would say its no where near the main factor, their are plenty of pretty girls on the internet
@johnwattdotca5 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisPepper1989! I'm going to share my total view. She is a very seductive You Tube presence, in her room, with her looks and wealth around her. This tiny screen and these tiny speakers is where her sound is at, and watching her live, that's where she's at, trying to create You Tube tunnel vision as a live performance. As a former professional musician, and a life-long non-smoker, non-drinker, I asked some friends about her looping and they said she has to have help in the studio, no one machine with one person can do this. At least Billie Eilish gets her older, professional guitarist-vocalist brother to share the stage with her. I'm not seduced by these videos. They just remind me of mild, female vocalist-drummers such as Karen Carpenter, who also lived and performed with her brother.
On the downside she has to be her own roadie as well

I've had the privilege of seeing Elise Trouw in concert a couple of times in Los Angeles. Her rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" is so ethereal. It's only a matter of time before the "mainstream" discovers this unique and very talented musician.

Very impressive ! Not only impresed by her great musical talant, but to have the guts to be on stage all by herself, playing all instruments live..... whao ! That's not something anyone would do, especially concidering her young age ! She's just awesome !

Gotta hand it to Elise for taking her music out live. Looper pedals can be very unforgiving! 🙌🏼👏🏻

She doesn't use pedals, the loop record and play timings are pre-mapped on a skeleton midi track.

@@BukkakeTuesdays thats exactly right. But they still require some live interaction; and to be fair, the pre-mapping is still part of the craft. At least, IMHO.
