Odisha CM-Designate Mohan Majhi Meets Governor, Stakes Claim To Form Govt

In a historic victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has clinched a decisive majority in the 2024 Assembly elections in Odisha, set to establish its government for the first time in the state.With 78 BJP MLAs and support from three independent MLAs, a delegation led by newly elected Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi met Odisha Governor Raghubar Das at Raj Bhawan to formally stake claim to form the government in the state.Notable BJP figures including Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and BJP’s Odisha in-charge Vijay Pal Singh Tomar were part of the delegation.Earlier, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, serving as the BJP’s central observer for Odisha, announced Mohan Charan Majhi as the Chief Minister designate following a Legislature party meeting held at the party’s state headquarters in Bhubaneswar.Additionally, newly elected Patnagath MLA Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Nimapara MLA Pravati Parida were designated as Deputy Chief Ministers.The swearing-in ceremony for the new Chief Minister is scheduled for tomorrow evening at Janata Maidan, with PM Modi set to grace the event.India is set to maintain its position as the fastest-growing major economy, with a projected steady growth of 6.7% over the next three years, including the current fiscal year, according to the latest World Bank report released on Tuesday. The report highlights India’s estimated growth rate of 8.2% in the fiscal year 2023/24, surpassing earlier forecasts by 1.9 percentage points. However, global growth is expected to remain modest, with a projection of 2.6% in 2024, gradually increasing to an average of 2.7% in 2025-26. This growth trajectory falls short of the pre-COVID-19 decade average of 3.1%. The report indicates that despite this, countries representing over 80% of the world’s population and GDP would experience slower growth compared to the pre-pandemic era.
