Recently Sutra principal dancer, Harenthiran Pulingam was invited by Shri Siddhartha Nayak (Founder/Director of Houston-based Odissi Academy) to perform Odissi at their 6th episode of Oh, Odissi! One-World, online festival.
Sutra videographer, Jayaselan captures Harenthiran in a compelling video, performing two compositions of different qualities (tandav & lasya) of Guru Gajendra Kumar Panda, in the inimitable Sutra creative spirit, framed in the lush Sutra & KamaRia gardens.

Mangalacharan Lakshmi Narasimha
After requesting benediction from Gajanana, the Elephant-head God and Promoter of Tandava (Vigorous form of dance) - Lakshmi Narasimha, the Awe-inspiring Man-Lion God (Narasimha), with Lakshmi, the Goddess of auspiciousness, sitting on his lap, is invoked. The verse draws upon the signature prayer song of Prahalad Natakam, the folk theatre form of Ganjam. The Mangalacharan is studded with garlands of vigorous Sabda, punctuating the verse as a sublime offering alluding to the ferocious aspects of Narasimha.

Radha, is restless and tortured by her separation from her beloved Krishna. Abandoning her pride, besotted Radha ultimately relents when she hears the call of Krishna’s divine flute.
Harenthiran is a compelling dancer who has performed principal male roles in many of Sutra’s productions. Trained in odissi, bharatanatyam, ballet and contemporary modern techniques, Harenthiran is a passionate performer with long expressive limbs, projecting intense stage presence. He has taken many major roles in Sutra productions such as Spellbound, Vision of Forever, Krishna - Love Re-invented, and recently GANJAM, Amorous Delight and Odissi on High. He has toured extensively with Sutra in the U.S., Europe and major cities of India besides Malaysia. Harenthiran shows an aptitude towards choreography and contributes his creative ideas to many of Sutra’s productions.
