In this review, we compare the facelifted 2024 Hyundai Creta with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Skoda Kushaq. Are hybrids a good match for turbo-petrols? We put these cars through a detailed test to find out, comparing their real-world mileage and performance figures.

The Hyundai Creta and Skoda Kushaq are powered by 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 7-speed DCT gearboxes. The Hyundai makes 160PS and 253 Nm while the Skoda puts out 150PS and 250 Nm. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder makes a combined 116PS from its hybrid powertrain with 92PS/122 Nm coming from the 1.5-litre petrol and 80PS/144 Nm from the electric motor. The top-spec Creta costs Rs 23.67 lakh, the Kushaq costs Rs 23.28 lakh while the Hyryder costs Rs 23.92 lakh, all on-road Mumbai.

For a comparison, the edit is very poor, there is no pause or any gap anywhere distinguish between 2 vehicles, and for most of the part it feels like only Kushaq & Creta are being compared. At few moments, Hyryder comes out of nowhere.

In summary, if you prioritize ride quality, driving experience, build, and safety, and you are an enthusiastic driver, the Skoda Kushaq stands out in its segment. A car should be designed and built to meet the fundamental needs of the road and its drivers for the long term, rather than catering to temporary desires for feature-loaded options. I own a Kushaq 1.0 and have driven over 3000 km, consistently achieving a mileage of 13-14 km/l overall life time so far, 18-19 km/l in the city, and 22-24 km/l on the highway. This is based on my real experience. I recommend that people test drive it themselves, focus on the essential features, and seek advice from current users before making their final decision.

My Kushaq 1.5 Monte Carlo DSG has completed over 21000 kms and based on my experience I will give this car a 5 ⭐. Excellent handling and driving dynamics. You feel it when you drive it. No issues with power at all. You just have to hit the pedal and the power is there for you. I am getting around 12 kmpl in the city except when I am stuck in the traffic with AC on a s I am okay with that. I knew this when I was buying it.

I have experienced all three vehicles, and if fuel efficiency and the compact size of the Kushaq are not your primary concerns, I wholeheartedly recommend the Kushaq. It excels in nearly every aspect: the driving dynamics are outstanding, the build quality is excellent, and the VW 2.0 platform is impressive (just a little bit behind the old VW group cars). The two-spoke steering wheel adds a premium touch. Skoda is known for its superior European quality and brand image, which Hyundai simply cannot match. While the Hyryder boasts an attractive design, it falls short in quality, with noticeable door rattles and subpar interior plastics reminiscent of the Brezza. If mileage is your top priority, then the Hyryder might be your best option; otherwise, it lags in quality. The Creta is average at best, lacking a distinct brand identity and failing to compete with the Kushaq's driving dynamics.

Can someone help with my query. I had honda city petrol variant two cars one after another for 12 years and I was travelling 100 kms per day for last 8 years. I sold them almost 6 years apart. Now, I want to purchase a hybrid four wheeler. I would be travelling 60 kms in city teaffic per day. Wish to move to a hybrid car/SUV but dont like Vitara or Hyryder. Another Hybrid City would be too boring. Can someons suggest me what I should opt for in automatic transmission hybrid car/SUV segment. My budget is 25-28 lakhs. I am also fine to drive a sedan or SUV petrol automatic provided it gives me 15-16 kmpl in heavy traffic of city. I need a high end car/SUV, around 25-28 Lakhs, mostly driven by driver. A recliner seat at the back would be a delight.

Verna got 5 stars in safety Creta uses the same chassis , so mostly it will receive the same rating 😇

Verna got 5* rating not because of chassis, it is due to the 6 airbags, ADAS features and other electrically controlled maneuvering features that help prevent accident as well. Chasis wise there might be improvement, but not as strong as Skoda, VW, or Tata.

Let me tell you the review is very goodr . From the forum discussions hyryder easily gives 24 + kpl in city and highway runs below 100 gives 25 which goes down to 17-18 kpl.
