0:51: Hephaestus, god of the forge and fire, blessing Odysseus' weapons with the strength needed to kill his enemies. 0:55: Ares, god of war, blessing Odysseus for the incoming bloodshed he's about to inflict on the suitors. 1:20 and 1:26: Artemis and Apollo, goddess of the hunt and moon and god of archery and music, blessing Odysseus' arrows to aim true on his targets. 1:56: Hera and Aphrodite, goddess of family and marriage and queen of the gods and goddess of love, blessing Odysseus to protect his beloved family and wipe out those who threaten them and his kingdom. 2:23: Dionysus, god of wine and festivity, celebrating the long-awaited return of Ithaca's rightful king. 2:29: Hermes, god of thieves and cunning and Odysseus' great-grandfather, blessing him with the wit needed to trick and overcome the suitors. 3:05 (can also be seen in a few other instances): Athena, goddess of war and wisdom and Odysseus' patron god, watching over Telemachus in his battle against the suitors. 4:21: Zeus, king of the gods and god of lightning and hospitality, giving Odysseus his blessing to massacre the men who have broken xenia and terrorized his palace for years. 4:25: Poseidon, god of the sea and Odysseus' greatest enemy, showing how his ruthlessness has changed Odysseus and given him the mindset necessary to commit this massacre. 5:04: Charon, ferryman of the Underworld, delivering Odysseus' victims to their resting place. 5:13: Atropos, one of the Three Fates, cutting the suitors' thread as their lives finally reach their end. There's probably one or two more I missed in there.

@@nkosig4995 Zeus has always been the villain in this story, and Hera is also his victim, but unable to take revenge on him, she takes out her anger on other victims and their children. Which leads to the fact that they, unable to take revenge on Hera (not that Artemis didn't try), take out their anger on everyone who gets their hands on. It is very difficult to overcome this. Artemis may have at least begun to realize this, but only after committing a crime that even Zeus considered terrible. Or maybe he was offended that she hadn't gone to him for help. The second one is more believable, because it's Zeus.

@margaretschaufele6502 argo should be already dead: he was Odysseus's dog before the war, so right now should be over 20. If I remember right, he is 22. Assuming that the palace has a surveilance (the weapon room has a key, and I doubt that Odysseus took the key to war) a servant should have met Odysseus and fill him in on what is happening. In the Odyssey, when Odysseus touched the shores of Ithaca, Argo was the first to greet him, and then he died shortly after. About the wolves, they could be both real and not: in the musical Telemachus is addressed as little wolf and Odysseus and his crew are addressed by Poseidon as pack of wolves

2:30 I just noticed that out of all the scenes where it showed each gods and goddesses giving their blessing to Odysseus to destroy these jerks, this might be the most subtle yet more personal, in a way, of how they're showing their blessing. Hermes is the only one who actually helped him without ulterior motives, just wanna f around and help for funsies, but at the same time he's Odysseus' great grandfather. Compared to all the gods and goddesses here, Hermes blends in the most with Ody because, well, they're family and there might as well be a bit of resemblance, but it's also because he has been by Ody's side the whole time even if he was only present with two songs Might be overthinking it but I love this little detail the most!

In both songs Hermes plays off his involvment each time saying "Don't thank me." and providing an excuse, the first is that he is only doing it for his own amusement, and then the second he tries to pass of credit entirely even though it wasn't needed for him to acompany or help Odysseus in anything other than freeing him from the island. Hermes isn't a warrior, he can't directly oppose the will of gods such as Poiseidon, Zeus, or Athena, and he makes his first appearence right as Odysseus needs him, as before Poiseidon interfered the fleet had every chance of making it home unscathed. EDIT: Another thing to note, is that Hermes is the patron god of Travellers. He had every reason to want that fleet to make it home.

Odysseus and his crew were nicknamed the wolf pack. Dangerous, cunning, and worked together like a proper pack to make sure everyone made it out alive. There's a reason no one died in the Trojan War, and the deaths only started when Gods and Monsters got involved. On the other hand, Telemachus was nicknamed "Little Wolf" because he is Odysseus' son. It was a term used by the suitors to mock him. Basically saying he would always be the wolf pup and could never live up to his father. Athena used the nickname in a positive light, encouraging him to fight back and show that while he was still young (only 20 and lacks life experience), he can grow and match his father.

OMG OMG I realized that the suitor begging Odysseus to stop the massacre is actually a reference to that Thetis begging Zeus art piece, but while Zeus was persuaded by Thetis (as a king of the gods), this king is NOT persuaded by words or tears (it is said that Thetis wept and begged Zeus for her son's valor to be recognized among the greeks during the war; that's all in the Iliad)! I really, really loved your Hold Them Down animatic and I really love this animatic as well! and, well, while the suitor is begging to the gods, the gods have all agreed that the suitors are in the wrong and that Odysseus should go home, so their prayers are going unanswered XD ... your art is BEAUTIFUL. if you had a twitter acc I would follow you IMMEDIATELY

The symbolism during "keep your heads down, he's aiming for the torches" is driving me insane. Not only do we see the wolf, which is used for Odysseus' and his crew and son throught the musical (example, Ruthlessness: "the pack of wolves is swimming with the shark now"/ or all of Little Wolf), but it might also be a reference to Scylla, like the torches, since she is also originally portrayed with six dog/wolf heads. Not sure if that's intentional, but it all fits so well. Thank you for making and sharing this! There is so much more great stuff I could point out, like the bodies turning into smoke before disintegrating and the lifelines being used a couple times, but it would get out of hand, lol. Stellar work all in all!

That wasn't Penelope. That was the Loom of Fate belonging to the 3 Fate sisters. You can see their eyes at the top of the tapestry. They cut the thread of life at the end, showing the end for the suitors.

@@IreneShardaForever I thought it started with Penelope weaving the tapestry of her husband dunking on the people who ruined her life, then smash cut to Atropos cutting the thread of their lives. This is primarily because the loom is styled the same way as Penelope's loom in Stella Luna's Hold Them Down animatic and because I don't usually think of The Fates as depicting mortals' lives once they reach the gates of Hades.

And dear Luce, you made a work very particular, good worked and with a Good use of a Poetic and Simbolic Language. Aeschylus and Sofocles examples continue to live. I just hope for other similar form to adapt the Epic Poems, and not the only the Greek Poems. That slow-mo shot of the suitors scattering during the title drop at 0:37 and then the way the arrow cuts through the flame to transition to the next scene at 0:53! AHHHHH!!!! (forgive me as a nerd out a bit about how much I love this animatic) Odysseus being depicted as this wolf, and the suitors as snakes is such great symbolism. And then to have the two wolves flanking him as he approaches the suitors at 1:48! And then you did not have to make Odysseus that🔥😳🔥by giving him fangs give at 1:50. I could fix him. Then we have Eurymachus's scene from 2:00 - 2:22, which left me literally with my mouth agape. I have no words for how much I love that scene! Lastly that silhouette shot of Odysseus decapitating Melanthius, was breathtaking, and then to follow up with Charon on the river Styx. (Odysseus was giving him so much work that day). I saw another comment mention this, (that included all the timestamps so I won't repeat what they said), but the subtle way you included so many gods/goddesses helping Odysseus was so clever! And that last scene with the fates cutting the thread the same time as Penelope unwove the shroud?!?!?!?!?! Literally perfect!
