brass has a much higher 'thermal conductivity' than stainless steel. This means Brass will transfer heat energy much better than stainless (which has the lowest thermal conductivity of any metal) therefore if you want for example a brew boiler to be more efficient make it from stainless as less heat is lost to the surroundings. If you want to make a group head to shed heat to prevent less of a temp rise, make it out of Brass. Thermal conductivity of Stainless=15.03 W/mK Brass= 146.87 W/mK

Been waiting for this session since the short one came out, and waiting a couple of years for that…and well pleased with what you’ve demonstrated and as always, the How of Lance. But most of all, I’m glad Ross and team took the time to get it right (except the drip tray, it seems). Having bought a Flair 58 to get in 58 shape (and i love what it gives me), I’ll be delighted to bring my Argos back from the US this summer and take the Flair to the office and give the AeroPress and V60 a rest. I feel great about the wait after your two reviews and what I can learn from this machine. Thanks for all you do for the greater glory of coffee - you’ve provided information and inspiration that’s completely changed how I experience and enjoy espresso particularly, which wasn’t something I could say a couple years ago - but I also know why now, largely thanks to your principled passion and my roasting mentor. Today’s is a vastly different coffee experience than as a turn of the century barista on a 3 group La San Marco on the opening shift.

Hello. Got to see the Argos at the Expo, is sharp. Also got to meet Johnathon Ganye and had a brew by him on the Pulsar that was fantastic. He is very nice. Also met the 2017 Latte Art Champion, Emilee Bryant at the Meticulous booth. She is very nice as well; who gave a demo and the shot pulled was good. (Hope I remembered the right year, Emilee). 😬 I was only there Friday, so missed meeting you (heard your flight got cancelled initially). Glad you made it there and perhaps another show.

Just a thought about the potential « no steam wand » version of the Argos : without the steam wand, you won’t be able to purge the pressure of the water tank for fast refilling or other uses… So the steam wand is still useful in other ways else than steaming milk.

@@MadScientist7if you want something that you don't want to wait to get it, flair 58 is a solid option. The Argos gives you a boiler which eliminates some faff and milk steaming abilities. At a higher price tag.

For filling the boiler, I have found that if I hold the funnel in my left hand and pour water with my right, I can hold the funnel with just the tip in the boiler and can see the water level pretty well. Other people have quit using the funnel altogether and use a gooseneck kettle which would give you the same ability with a one-handed approach.

I had to offset the PID on mine to get it stable with my kettle and thermometer. So far so good , i have it for many months now and everything is still perfect , i only replace one piston oring yet , still my daily driver . Anyway, best coffee content as usual mate ! Thanks

The latest word on the website is that the 2nd run will ship by Q3 of this year. As we're already a couple weeks into Q2, that's about 4-6 months; and they did say they have hired and are hiring more people to keep up with demand. I went ahead and ordered one with all the bells and whistles; and as long as I have it by Christmas, I'll be happy.

Hi Lance, Thanks for taking the time to do such a detailed review with so much useful information. I appreciate the effort you and Hugo put in to these videos! You mentioned enjoying shots from smaller diameter baskets so I wondered whether the Sworks step down (58mm -> 49mm) or similar basket might be a way to achieve that sort of profile with the Argos?

Excellent video. I have the argo for a month now and I have removed the spring. Perhaps it’s my imagination but the coffee seems better without the spring. I try to keep a constant 8 bar pressure on the analog gauge, but I don’t know if that is the correct method. It would be nice if you could a do mini video on the direct springless method. Thank you.

I want one of these so bad! I love your deep dives, but can you please explain how the chamber can fill too fast to bleed the air out? I can't seem to visualize that in my head, because no matter how fast the water comes in, the air should go up to the top and out the valve on the piston. I for the life of me can't understand how filling it faster can cause it to retain air.

Love this video. 28:12 Maybe I am missing something, but wouldn't the magnets affect the scale? I guess I don't understand how the magnets are implemented for the drip tray very well. I don't know if or when I will ever do espresso at home, but this will definitely be on the shortlist of machines that I would think about getting and the price point is amazing.

Looking at comments elsewhere, the magnets don't appear to be strong enough to affect the scale.

@azza2575
@azza2575 4 ай бұрын
I had the same dilemma, went for the argos. What swayed it for me is the hands on experience. I ordered the transducer as well, I might not be able to get exactly the same workflow as the Meticulous but tbh, I'm ok with that! I also think the argos looks better as well and a smaller footprint! I'm also sceptical about quality management for Meticulous, they haven't shipped any yet and there are a lot of orders to get through, that worries me!

If I had more thumbs you would get all of them for your deep dives! As soon as I have to wait around 6 months instead of 2 years on an Argos I will consider buying one. One off topic question came to my mind, are you adding anything to your ZeroWater or do you use it as it is? all the best form Germany

A question that's a bit unrelated but occured to me while watching the video: Based on this do you think it's okay to do a fellini shot on teh flair58? It would be much slower of course because you need to pull up, pour water and then press again, but it shouldn't disrupt the puck either if I'm correct. This is of course theoretical because it's pretty rare to want to fellini a f58, because it can do around a 60g shot, but I was just interested on your take on this.

How many shots does an a average home user pull in direct succession? Maybe two 99% of the time? I guess the Argos was not designed for more than that anyways, looking at the size of the boiler. I know we are looking for perfection here but a bit of an reality check could help, no?
@LanceHedrickUnfiltered
@LanceHedrickUnfiltered 4 ай бұрын
Uhhh I'd say that isn't accurate. People very often pull more than 2 in a row when dialing in a bean. Reality check is very few can dial a new coffee in 2 pulls.
@The8c9
@The8c9 4 ай бұрын
@@LanceHedrickUnfiltered I absolutely agree with you on this point! Where I would argue that "dialing in" is a peak experience as well. Since most dial in a new bag of beans only ones a week or even ones every two weeks? I guess you would agree that someone who tastes/ dials in 5 different coffees a day is better off investing in a Strietman CT2?
