Awesome video, it worked for me! Heads up though...if you purchase the new Module Package from GM it comes with an adapter for the old harness, so you can skip the entire step of removing the back seat cover. Just unplug the old module in the front and add the adapter to the old harness.

This is the best video on KZbin for this issue. I've looked at so many I can't even remember how many I looked at. Just easy to follow and understand in all aspects. The combo part number in the description is correct, I bought one today. The cost was over $100 though, not sure how he got it for $65. On the new one you don't need to remove the rear of the console. The new harness is only about 6". I routed the cable as he did, under the module then up and around the slot for the bottom molding clip. Also make sure to route the old part of the harness in the grove of the hinge. So, the new harness eliminates the second step of removing the rear of the center console. I removed it before I realized that GM was trying to make replacement easier. So hopefully anyone else doing this upgrade will realize how GM is helping you out, reads my post or maybe this video gets updated to mention the upgraded harness. Below is a link showing the routing of the harness. Make sure to route the original cable in the grove of the hinge. Also a picture showing the holes where the rear console clips into (to help you visually understand why he said to pull back and up). drive.google.com/folderview?id=1vmhabpB3J8mrTJLYYc004u4hhmbUCN6e

Great job. I’m stoked to give it a shot. Really appreciate that you took the time to be as thorough and specific. Also really cool that you took the opportunity to point out possible mistakes that people could have made with the pinched wire, orientation of rubber mat and the warning about the removal of the rear portion of the console (preventing folks from jerking all the harnesses out while attempting to remove it). Overall fantastic video. Looking forward to seeing more.

Hi Jeff, Thanks for the video. I just did this in my 2017 Tahoe using the new combo pack part (gm part 19432813). Quick note - if you’re using that part, it comes with a harness that plugs directly into the existing wiring. You do NOT need to remove the rear panel on the center console, only the piece underneath the arm rest.

Hey! Glad I found your video it worked perfect for me and it took all of 12 minutes to swap in the new module. First world problems I know but so convenient to just put my iPhone down and charge. I self-installed in my 2016 Yukon Denali for those who are wondering if this will work in their vehicle.The only thing that changed is screws are now T-20 Torx size in mine and the Gen 2 module includes a wiring harness to plug and play into current wiring with no need to remove rear panel shown in video.

Basically the link doesn't work above for Apple but if you go to the way back machine you can find it. It says, "The implementations of wireless charging in 2017 and earlier models from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC do not meet the requirements for Qi certification. These models do not work with iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus." I didn't know that, I just thought it broke - I even asked the service center at the dealer and they didn't know. :O So good to know basically it's a standards issue. This video is very informative and I like the research and the fact you posted an update that you can get the newer harness and module for about $80. I'll be calling my dealer tomorrow to see if I can get it... they are pretty reasonable with prices so hopefully I can just by it from them. Thank you again!

The modification to the pad is not required, it simply helps align the device with the new wireless module. Finally got my new module ordered (chip shortage really screwed me). Got everything taken apart only to find out that the harness that came with the module doesn't match up with the wiring that I disconnected from. Help!
@jeffsgora2 жыл бұрын
Hey Robin, it is hard to say without seeing what you're facing. When this video was made the newer modules would not fit the old wiring harness under the arm rest so that is why I show removing the back panel and replacing the harness. The newer module is actually a kit (these came out after the video was made) and come with an adapter that plugs into the end of the harness under the armrest so removing the back panel is not required. It is possible that you may not have the right module as you're the first person to comment about this, it is also possible something may have changed since it has been some time since I made this video. I hope this points you in the right direction!

I don't see why not - the OEM swap gives you the same thing in the end.. Some people don't even have to remove the back cover anymore depending on what harness you get. I'm guessing a new cover is quite a bit more expensive vs the module.

Where do I find the new harness to upgrade to the 2018 module?

You should be able to just google the part number (19432813) and find what you need. Info in the description.
