Hi guys - another great vid on a Sunday morning :) All signed up for ECC. One point you didn't cover when talking about sources of water - RAIN! :) We use that big water collecting area of the awning to collect rainwater. We use a "Rain Saver Gutter" system (not expensive) and I'll add the link to the end of this comment. But we let the first flush of water go to ground, as it has the dust etc in it. We then tilt the awning ever so slightly more one way than the other (we just nudge up the awning support at the rear of the van a tad), apply the gutter clips to the awning's valance so that it forms a gutter, and either hang the bucket (complete with its filter) at the low end, or just stand the bucket on something and let the water run into it. Every time the bucket is full, we just stand it on the spare wheel and siphon it into one of the tanks. Alternatively, if you have a creek pull pump, you can just pump it out of the bucket into a tank. If it's still raining, just refill and repeat as needed until full. Nice clean rainwater - lovely!! Also, you can stand out in the rain (either with togs on, or nothing on if nobody around) and soap up and shower. Have done that a few times too, especially up here in Queensland where the rain tends to be quite heavy and not icy cold. :) Great series - keep it coming :) rvdaily.com.au/product-review-the-rain-saver-gutter/ rsgaccessories.com.au/pages/about-us

We are pretty avid off grid campers, our biggest challenge is always water & toilet. On longer trips we carry a water bladder in the back of the ute that we fill at a water point in town. Pump that back into the van with an inline pump and we can sustain another 3-4 days each time. Great video guys!

Interesting tips. Some more: 1. Apply shampoo/ conditioner before turning on shower. 2. Shower standing in a bucket, as we did in the Simpson. 3. Catch rain water, using a bucket, 20litee drum or a funnel connected to a hose running to your tank inlet.

And another great episode. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Great to see some diversity from all the others on KZbin. So sick of watching people cook a bloody roast or make a wrap 😂 Re water we got 5 expandable water containers from RTM, they hold 25 litres each so great fro a town or clear stream run. Have you guys got a caravan sponsor yet? No others are as deserving. Safe travels. Hopefully see you guys on the road somewhere.

Hi guys, this is my first time watching your videos. I grew up in Tassie. Looks like you filmed this video at Lake Gardener also known as Wilmot Dam. I lived a bit north of Wilmot. There is a lookout on the Wilmot Road, on the way from Wilmot to Forth. The lookout over looks farm land and Lake Barrington and the mountains. I grew up on the farm near the lookout and when I got married I moved onto the farm at the lookout. I lived in this area many years ago.

Oooooh, we started our camping adventures at lake Gairdner in about 2010 in a little 3 man tent on a frosty night. That was back in the days before wiki camps and we had to make things up as we went, we started a Facebook camping page to post pics and give info of campsites. Look how far things have come!!

Good Video. We have lived & travelled 'off grid' for the past 6 years & you articulate the many benefits & attractions of travelling in this way well. Our rig is much smaller, but nevertheless we have been capable of regularly going 6 to 8 weeks between re-supplying for food, & can go for up to 4 weeks without running out of on board water. (2 of us in a Nissan Patrol + Tvan) with 220 litres carried. Ice cream 2 litre container with a couple of inches of water & flannel washes. Showers are a luxury when we know where next water is coming from. We have however never had to move on just because of the need to top up. We have never needed to plug into power.

If you have a top load washer, stop it before it pumps out, remove the washing (squeezing water out) put it in a bucket and throw another load through by starting the washer from the beginning again, repeat until washing done. Spin it out, I dunk the washing in a cold bucket of water to rinse and spin out. If you use wool mix no need to rinse. I can do 4 loads of washing on about 30 litres of water

Hi guys - another good tip is to collect water off your pull out awning. ( if you’re lucky enough to have a rain shower) Ours has a Chanel on the outer edge with a hose fitting attached to one end. Connect hose and run to your water tank or a jerry can. If awning doesn’t have a Chanel Seen people rig up a funnel and hose and into a jerry can . Just need one end a bit lower to give a small fall.

Hi guys enjoy your content ,have been subscribed to your channel for a long time now. I agree water is the most important source to have. What I have done I bought a 12 volt camp shower and fitted a 12 volt cigarette point in the side of the vanity fill a 5 litre bucket with water and we can both shower with less than 10 litres of water .We have an old van and found we wasted too much water trying to set the right temperature. this system works well for us when off grid.

I didn't think I would learn much about off grid as we've been doing it for a very long time, but I did! Thank you so much! I love watching your travels because you could so be our kids 😂 you are so great to watch because we can relive our travels through your eye's, and Liz I love that thermi goes with you 😎 mine has been around Aus, 8 years ago not many people had seen one camping. So the hot water in the thermoserver was my favourite tip. Now I'm going to put two in for our next trip instead of one. Hi Liz & Simon, absolutely love your videos they are so helpful for us as us girls are planning our first lap, we are so open to using strategies that can work for us (not having the strength of a man) sadly lost my husband last April & my sister is also on her own, so would love tips for ways we can do things that may impact being to heavy for us. I'm loving the off grid series, on water management we heard use baby wipes to save on the water! We also are wanting to book going to Tassie so truly loving your current EP's on that!
