Harvester Ant Bait really does do a pretty fair job knocking down infestations on large plots. Keep the bait handy in sealed canisters and give the boogers a few shakes every time you find a nest(s). You will see a distinct decline in ants before season's end and you will be applying less and less bait with every passing month. By next year you will be shocked at how nice life is with almost no Harvesters.

Keep any container with ant bait CLEARLY labeled. I use empty parmesan cheese shakers for my ant bait.

Surrender makes a good ant powder. Alittle at every entrance, there are always a few, just a circle right around the hole. They track it in and it kills the queen.

Do you get some kind of code or notification when the battery run down in the keypads? If not, just put an annual recurring reminder on your calendar. I do that for the batteries in my flashlights. You'll have to let us know if it works smoothly in high winds. Is there some kind of emergency disable if a car breaks down in the gateway? What a great sponsor! The smart connection piece is something we may do later as a separate video (need wifi all the way down at the gate first which is it's own hurdle). It seems to be handling the winds just fine - they actually recommended that we could add a stopper when it's open to help if it's blowing it too much. Since we don't keep it open we're not super worried about it right now, though. Yes it's easy to pull the pins and override the system in an emergency.

From the look of the mud under the gate creating an area where the dogs could easily get out under the gate. A new item for your bucket list would be a concrete threshold which would be about 25 feet on both sides of the gate. But for the short term a 5 foot one 2.5 feet on each side. 🤣

We had to do the ant dance when we lived in the north west of Western Australia. Hundreds of little tiny ones that crawled up your legs, everytime I hung out the washing, did gardening etc. Thankfully they didn't bite.

When I first saw when you posted this video, I was actually imagining I saw "3 YEARS ago" and just thought how weird it was I hadn't ever noticed this video before. I actually remember pretty recently watching some video in which you drove through the gate, nobody said anything about an automatic gate opener, and thinking how strange it was. I now conclude you'd already moved up an automatic gate opener/closer much higher on your priority list by the time you made that video. Anyway, I congratulate you on getting and installing the gate opener. Please tell your daughter from me that her comments about your projects never working amused me exceedingly because I can almost picture myself saying something like that as an adolescent. But maybe something has happened to my POV in the last 40 years because now I agree with you parents. it's not whether you hit a hiccup (because there is never any shortage of snags/hiccups to any undertaking) but how you address it that matters. Your projects always work because you find solutions. I'm glad you make these videos. I hope you'l keep making them a while longer. (-;

Sweet - I've been researching a gate opener since we had deer fencing installed last summer. There are so many I've had a hard time figuring it all out. This is the set-up we need. Only difference is we have 2 gates at our entry point. So have to figure that part out.

You can double gate it. So when go out or in you always have a shut gate. No animals can get out that way. You go thru one it locks behind you then you open second gate. When you enter your property same thing in reverse. That your animals are safe. Really worth it. ❤

AMDRO for fire ants... it's pet safe and SO easy to use. Just sprinkle a teaspoon around their path or mound. I have the same ants here in Phoenix.

You need to make sure the bolt for the gate latch/lock is loose and floating or the temperature fluctuations expansion contraction will cause it to bind up. A 45 degree cable with turn buckle will keep the gate from sagging and binding also trust me I been through it lol is AZ heat and wind.
