Definitely like the idea of using gravel and then tamping it down, will make for an easy repair if a problem would ever come up with the base. Also like the idea of using a box on the corner to easily run the water pipe.

Well done, Doug. Your gravel depth is 16" +/-(?) and compacted. Can't imagine a problem. I know you researched everything, so you should be good to go when everything is completed. Glad for you and Stacy. Be safe.

What I find amazing is that even today I'm watching you on your new shows and even back when you did this it was amazing you're inspiring you let people know that they don't have to do it one way that there's other ways to do things are a little bit cheaper but just as good and this was an amazing thought to put the spare and that way if you ever want to move those tanks you can to what if you know and that's what makes it nice is that concrete's permanent unless you break it up this you could just shovel it out God bless and thank you so much this is what I want to do when I move on to my own property I want to have this kind of water catchment thank you so so much for your inspiration for everyone on KZbin you and your wife are a miracle to us God bless you and thank you so much

Cistern system is new to me. We Have a dug well with a jet pump (raw water, no filter). As a kid l have seen a hand pump in a camp yard that had a valve on top. Turn the valve and when you pump it would direct the water to a holding tank in the attic of the cabin, gravity fed to the kitchen. Turn the valve and you were pumping out the front of the hand pump again.

A great video Doug. I liked the idea of tampered sand/gravel mix. We have some places outside where we need some hard ground, and it would be a good idea for us as well. I would contain it with a big wooden box. BTW - If you should ever get your tank full...have you thought about what to do with the excess water? Maybe an idea for you guys could be to look into permaculture/forest gardening, and create level trenches where you could send any extra water? It would seep into the ground and give moist to your plants and trees from below...and could even create underground water reserves... There are people that create green gardens in deserts using these methods of planting once, not having to water or weed or plant for the next 30 years.

Hey Doug! I've been watching your journey since day 1, and you guys have always inspired me to do this and we finally found our forever farm, and now we can stay in place and do the things we always wanted to do. All I would like to know if how much did your tanks cost, and where did you get them? We are shopping around right now for the best options for the price. We have a family of 5, plus farm animals. We would like to start with a 5,000 gallon tank, maybe make a video on current water and how well it has worked for you guys all these years, and the cost and beat place to get tanks. We are willing to drive, and we live in Tennessee!

this is a great system you hooked up. the only problem you might have is the filters, as your filters get a little buildup will reduce your flow. these filters are made for pressure system. i don't know if you want to install solar but if you do think about a camper system 12 volt on demand pump can be setting at your tanks, 12 volt battery 1 or 2 solar panels should do. like i said great system you did a great job.

You need to support the under part of it because as the weight of the water gets into the tank, it's going to make it slide and anything that goes underneath it like an animal will be killed. You need to support the underneath part and put a stopping Black in the beginning part of it. LIKE you would have car when you have it up higher.

I lived with a gravity fed system for fifteen years and we had a ten thousand gallon concrete tank underground that got most of ourccatchment from the house and shed the chooks got the water from the roof of their coop that was stored in a 55 gallon drum our high tank was only five hundred gallon and was above outhe roof of our single story home it was about six foot above the roof I’m not sure now how high it was but we had great pressure in the shower and right through out the house we filled our top tank with a firefighting pump probably about once a week depending on how many of us were living at home at the time our older kids kind of came and went
