I saw a really cool video one time about how beavers change ecosystems. They make the ponds and then eventually the pond space transitions eventually into a meadow. If I can find the video I will come back and post the title in a reply to this comment.
@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin3 жыл бұрын
It's true, Scott. This pond doesn't naturally drain, it will eventually fill up with debris.

As far as the warmer weather months go, why dont you put a 12v pump in the water barrel and have it go into the house so you dont have to carry it around all the time? Also, i watched a few videos of how you can filter that through 3 barrels of sand, and pump it into the house with a triple filter and at the drinking faucet you can put a reverse osmosis to drink.
@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin3 жыл бұрын
I plan to do something very similar, Wayne.

Oh I Russ. I believe those are Duck Eggs. You could try to incubate them if they were not out there too long, but you would need a 102 degree F source for a few weeks. They would make interesting subjects going forward. Who knows, they may return next year too. Just a thought.

i can partially answer some of yer questions on the drained pond Russell... someone (still not sure who) blew the main dam very early this spring... the channels youyou see zigzagging around are beaver channels that they have used over the years for traveling and hauling trees in and out of the pond. there are 5 beaver houses total on the pond and what was the shoreline... the dam is at the far side of the pond near the farthest beaver house you can see across there, it's big enough and old enough that it just resembles hard shoreline now (it probably took the beavers a hundred years to build it the size it is)
@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin3 жыл бұрын
Hey Wolfie, I should have thought to ask you about it. Any idea why they did it?

i got two theories on it (it wasn't the MNR) so it was either to build a better hunting area (almost a guarentee with all the fresh growth) or just to gain easier access to the upper area of that property by the people that hunt on that section of land... we'll talk about it more next time i see ya, i'll be in doing trail work and stuff the next week or so :)

YOu know, I've been looking into Water Distillers of late and think you'd be able to use one to get drinking water from lake. You'd have to filter it first then distill it. You can get them electric or fire fuel. You'd always have a source of drinking water that would be better than the bottled stuff you get from the store.

Sure Tony, except they require a lot of power when they're running. I have a similar table top distiller for other.... purposes.
