I couldn't agree more. I've always found it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission. For context, I'm off grid in Portugal.

is it any easier to go OG in Portugal or do you need to spend 4 years hiding in a bush there too?
@matthunt212810 ай бұрын
@@musicjunk8266Yes. I live in what's classed as an agricultural support building. It can then be changed on the deeds to an urban building and because it's built before 1951 I can legally live in it.

My planning permission was granted by my supportive neighbours! The obedient route will add 10 years and thousands

There is no right way, every council is different, do your research, get friendly with neighbours, let them know what your planning, people hate surprises and overact , but you always get busy bodies which complain for something to do. We live on an estate, we have a green opposite, it has protected status, been open to the public since the estate was built 50 years ago, the developer sold it recently for peanuts, they could have given to the town council, but sold it instead. It's now been sold multiple times, and multiple planning applications turned down, clearly the buyers aren't doing their research!

I have been watching all the off-gridders for years, with rose-tinted glasses plus a good extra layer of rose-tint added, and cataracts. I now realise you should invest a small fortune into getting a 'comfortable' life in the sticks. Or, just buy a completely renovated house, and a patch of cheap farmland nearby for 'The Good Life'?

It seems like the way things are going you may as well try to apply to build a wind / solar farm guard house and live in that because that will be what the countryside will become, that or woodland

I don't ask permission to no man for anything. There are over 1 million illegal immigrants on this land WHO SHOULD NOT be here, yet me, family been here since the dawn of time has to ask to build a small holding to raise kids on 😂 ill take me chances, just started watching you fella. Doing a great job, protect your family by any means necessary, the plod or govt won't.

I'm sure you know as well as many of us that the government in the UK don't want you to live off grid full stop, crickey they can barely stand farmers who already Iive in the countryside. In terms of planning, using the 'right way' lumps you with unworkable restrictions (agricultural ties etc). Doing it the 'wrong way' so to speak puts you at risk of nosy, spiteful neighbours tattling and jobsworth council employees taking great pleasure in kicking you off your own land. Good to raise the issue though!

You'll have about 2 years from the 1st letter to get off the land and get it sold before evictions come (if you reply and appeal it etc)

I am going back to agricultural work soon, I will be living on site after no more than three months wait for the consent to be give by my local council members. Everyone is on the side of the hard working farmers. previously only the council members and our government were against us, we watched them giving plenty to their mates and relatives so now we say are allowed the same. Some of the people who get dwelling consent never do any agricultural work, I have seen it , it is disgusting, but that's how it is.
