Awesome van tour! I love how well thought out your setup is. You’ve thought of absolutely everything to have a comfortable life in there. I wish I could do mine the same. I love the storage tubs you have your spices & cooking stuff in, where are they from? I have the same water shoes, how good are they! Could you put some contact or even a bit of spray paint or something over the screen for your bathroom so it’s not see through? That would save you having to shut all the curtains when you need to go. I put magnets on my curtains so they’re easy to throw on in a hurry & I usually just leave most of them on all the time lol

Thanks Sally. The storage tubs are just from Kmart or Target. I just bought 2 more large ones to put my plates plus cookware into. They have rollers in the back so easy to slide in and out. Exactly right, Jimmy. Even my houses used to be minimalist. No fairy lights, scatter cushions and wine glasses for me😂 I think I remember you mentioning the Kmart microwave some time ago. Good one Jason. Your previous van life experience has shown through in some of the functionality on this one. One of the most common gripe of Vanlifers who don't have a permanent bed setup is having to make the bed each time. It's the top (or near the top) of the list of "What they'll change if they had to start again". How are you finding your bedding situation months into full-time van life journey?
@MakingStuffGoingPlaces3 ай бұрын
Yeah, making the bed really doesn't bother me at all. As you've no doubt seen, I often take video while making or packing up the bed, so I know it takes no more than 4 minutes each way. The way I look at it is it's only 8 minutes out of my day and gives me a stack of free space that I use for many hours. Really doesn't bother me, but that's the trade off that I signed up to with this size van and this layout. Funny thing is though, whenever I sleep in my mum's house, I get up in the morning and groan at the thought of making the bed 😂

I like the way you found to keep the fridge from not opening when driving. How did you mount the fridge in its position, some more details would be great to consider for my own build. Thanks
@MakingStuffGoingPlaces3 ай бұрын
There's some shots of the brackets I made in the build videos, if you have a look at my channel playlists. I mounted 2 aluminium angles, one bolted to the steel fridge frame in the back near the compressor. This then bolts into the framing for the cupboard. The 2nd is at the top front, and picks up on the mounting bolts for the door hinges. The fridge has reversible doors, so there's bolt holes in each side.

@MiniLuv-19843 ай бұрын
Brilliantly done Jason. Willing to move away from right angles opens up a lot of possibilities. So I want exactly what you have got, except the bed must remain made with bedding in place. I wonder if I build a bed that can move up into the roof space while not in use and lower it for sleep? If I can figure out the pulley system that will allow me level the bed when lowered independent of the angle of the van.
@MakingStuffGoingPlaces3 ай бұрын
There are drop down bed mechanisms available. If you had the bed lengthwise instead of across, then the size would be ok with the tapered roof. You'd really need the longer "jumbo" van, which is what my previous one was. The only hassle then is headroom. You'd lose about 130 to 150mm....current height is 2.0m
@MiniLuv-19843 ай бұрын
@@MakingStuffGoingPlaces A bit to think about. Perhaps the bed can be hinged in the middle to fit in the narrower roof area. The loss of height is a PITA, but given it is over the sitting areas can make it more tolerable as one can stand upright in the prep area.
@MakingStuffGoingPlaces3 ай бұрын
@MiniLuv-1984 for sure. Only issue with a drop down bed in mine is that you enter and exit through the sitting area, so losing headroom there wouldn't be good.. The other way is a Murphy bed hinged off the wall. Can't have the window then, but it's all a trade off to get exactly what you want.

Thanks Eddie. There's a Bluetooth interface that gives basic stats. Also running the heater for an hour in the mornings. I've got plenty of juice, but if it's overcast and I'm not driving much, I need to keep an eye on it.

If you switch off the solar breaker switch when driving you’ll get 50a from the alternator. Very handy if driving in rain, high cloud cover etc. just a heads up mate🤙. Great job on the van but you are over qualified to do it😂.

Thanks mate 😁 Yes, I often switch off the solar breaker to get the full 50A...what a rubbish design! They've sort of put in a band-aid fix on the new versions where you can set a minimum solar current where if it drops below that value, you get 100% alternator. I'm thinking of having a "boost" switch in the front that can isolate the panels via a relay at the press of a button, but then resets when you switch off the engine....because I keep forgetting to turn the panel breaker back on 😂
