Iv had xlifter for around 2years on my d3 it’s pretty awesome! I use 35mm lift for normal driving and find it more comfortable than std. I lower 20mm on motorway. The self level is a game changer camping, surprising how many expensive campervans park on the piss.
@KindredAutomotive
@KindredAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Neat, but what do you do for alignment? The L322 changes toe significantly between the different height settings from what I remember. A couple years ago we played with base suspension calibration settings on the alignment rack and quickly realized you need to set your alignment at your “normal” height as going any significant distance at a different height would not be a good idea if you liked your tires. I’m fairly certain that’s why “access height” won’t let you drive very far, because the road will ruin your tires quickly. Off-road isn’t as big of a deal due to reduced friction which is why you can lock 4WD hubs on dirt but you’ll destroy your differential if you do it on-road. The level function is neat and I’d use the trailer loading for sure, but I don’t see this being useful for anyone wanting to change height on the fly and then drive any distance unless I’m missing something.

Good points, thanks! I’d suggest that if you’re running a full time “aesthetic lift” like me, you get the tracking redone at the new height to minimise tyre wear and handling changes etc. Then, like you say, any further height changes that are temporary or off road only aren’t an issue. As an aside, before getting the X-lifter I did around ~10,000 miles with a 25mm lift (without adjusting tracking), and haven’t noticed any untoward tyre wear. The handling is noticeably different but it’s more the higher CoG and increased body roll that you notice. Cheers for the comment!

Well, after your recommendation Sam, I ordered an X-Lifter from Devon4x4 and it arrived today and is now installed this eve. Your video was spot on, especially ours with the extra module top-right being a squeeze! Oddly when I was easing the panel back in, I thought I could hear some relays clicking up front towards the dash… I checked all the connections and everything not just the ones relevant, we’re all snug. After calibration I didn’t go through all the levels, the trailer or levelling mode but the comp temp went up to 107! (Critical). 🥴 any idea what this is indicating? Is the comp on its way out? Thanks again Sam, another of your vids has put a dent in my wallet 🤣😁 cheers Matti.

Hi Sam does the Xlifter override the existing controls ie a direct replacement.
@gordonwedman3179
@gordonwedman3179 Жыл бұрын
From exchanging a couple emails with the vendor I understand that if you use Xlifter to add height, say 25mm, and then use the Land Rover control to go to offroad height the usual LR height increase will be added to the. 25mm thus resulting in what is essentially extended mode. Could you please try this and report back?
@SamsMotors
@SamsMotors Жыл бұрын
Yep that is exactly how it works, any height you add or subtract with the X-lifter is applied to all of the preset heights on the vehicle.

Yeah you could definitely use it for that. The telestart is a factory option I believe (although I think most 4.4 TDV8s have it). It can be retrofitted if you can find the bits!

A really good and useful review of ex lifter. I have had one fitted in my discovery4 for a couple of years and camp in the back of the car when Hunting and off-roading. It really does work without interfering with the normal suspension functions in every day use. For me,Sam’s video was good in that it explained several of the other functions that I had not bothered with. I have used it with deeplyrutted tracks and swampy ground ,to good effect.

Also not sure where 62mph comes from, for the 2010+ model year it’s 100mph for more than 5 seconds and then stays down until you drop below 80 for 30 seconds. So the x-lifter drop might be useful if you’re cruising at a more normal speed 👍
@Bensgarage
@Bensgarage Жыл бұрын
@@SamsMotors I’m not sure where it came from either, I saw it somewhere. It makes more sense to drop at 62mph (100kmh), not many places in the world you can drive at 100 mph. So your x-lifter might come in handy.

I believe they need to know RHD and LHD because the air bags, struts, are different depending on which side the driver sits. Also, the L322 EAS is different to all other LR EAS systems on how they monitor each corner, the L322 has a more complicated EAS programming logic than the L320 and D3/D4, they can’t be shared.
@janstanek1976
@janstanek1976 Жыл бұрын
Actually, RHD/LHD settings only swap the inclinometer axes. The only reason is that the Xlifter EAS unit is mounted "mirrored" fashion. The "Front" orientation in LHD car becomes "back" in RHD, so you need to tell the xlifter which way is right...As simple as that. Btw in L322 2010+ has the original suspension computer in the trunk always on the right side, no matter if LHD or RHD. The setting is ignored in this case.

Hey Sam, just a quick question if you see this. Just watched Harry’s garage with Clarkson (great vid!). They mention the upgrade to the L322 where it got the ‘cloud lcd’ dashboard screen. Clarkson said when they used to film, the crew getting in & out of the car would fire up the ECU every time & then drain the battery. Have you experienced this at all? Cheers Sam (keep up the great work!)
@SamsMotors
@SamsMotors Жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, thanks for the comment! The times where I've come closest to draining the battery this way are when I'm working on something inside it - e.g. when I replaced the seats and door cards, or when I fitted the CarPlay kit. I've never drained it to the point where it won't start though! I'm guessing maybe Clarkson's crew were charging camera equipment and other devices etc off the 12V system, adding to the load. They need a good AGM battery to be sure of a strong start. Sam

Hi Sam, thanks for the reply. Awesome! Yes as a fellow engineer & L322 enthusiast, i completely agree with your assessment. There are two main concerns with implementing a device like this that can damage your vehicle. 1) the control arm bushings relative to your ride height. They have to be adjusted to your new ride height or they will prematurely wear and fail as they are twisted. 2) the camber of your wheels and tires at you new ride height. You have to get an alignment if you plan on driving at speed with a different ride height or you will get odd tire wear and possibly upset the stability of the vehicle. I think these devices are cool, but if you intend to keep the ride height adjusted during road driving, you absolutely must make proper adjustments to the vehicle to prevent unintended damage. I hope this company makes the customer aware of these issues, because I would imagine them getting upset after discovering these issues and wanting to discard the device.

The Range Rover lowers by 20mm at highway speeds, which is set by Land Rover. I'm sure they would have worked that one out. And I think if you're driving round in the higher settings at speed, it won't be long until you put it back down. Any handling the car has, will be out the window at those heights.
