Late to this video so probably no one will read this but I’m a huge Teresa Teng fan because I grew up also with my mom listening to her and watching her music videos on VHS! Just some background info that I know on Teresa - she really was a big deal not just in China but in Asia! She was the idol of Asia before kpop - she had fans and listeners from Vietnam, the Philippines, Korea and even Japan! She even sung songs in other Asian languages - pretty sure she has a whole Japanese album. Teresa was brought back as a hologram at a Jay Chou concert (by the same company that did the Tupac hologram for Coachella)! My mom enjoys Korean trot, which is the Korean equivalent. It was lullaby music for us younger generation; put us to sleep in no time! Several years ago, I was watching 恐竜戦隊ジュウレンジャー(Zyu Rangers, MMPR in the west) and close to the end, I heard a familiar song in the background. I asked myself, "Why is my mom's music in this show?" The song was '恋人よ' (My Dear) by 五輪真弓 (Mayumi Itsuwa). Honestly, it's not a terrible track, but a lot of this musical genre is slow-paced with ZERO English words & phrases in the lyrics, as opposed to J-Pop/Rock/Dance for the younger listeners.
