No one will ever convince me that this is not one of her best songs. The background vocals during the verses alone are incredible. I hope she uses hard-hitting drums like in the pre-chorus again in the future.

Still my favorite song of hers after all the other work she's released.
I love how discordant her harmonies are. They're not traditional angelic, they're a demented kind of angelic. The sound is addicting.

That's because she's definitely a demented angel. She used her body and looks to ride to the top and now she's singing about it, it's beautifully eerie.

It's so interesting how young and innocent she sounds while singing "I'm your little scarlet, starlet..." But then the rest of the song it sounds very mature. I love that contrast.
@lilbunny98338 жыл бұрын
yeah because of the contrast of the girl in Lolita , how she's innocent but mature at the same time.

I don't know what it says about me but her obsession with Lolita is so hot
@nniloveless34998 жыл бұрын
Mm…not that she is innocent but mature at the same time..its more like…she is very mature and smart. She's seen quite a bit throughout her lifetime, so she knows how to get her way and all that. BUT she has the qualities of an innocent girl (Alt. sweet voice, beautiful, soft looks) and thats good to have. She can get what she wants with that "innocent" side. Its like a cover up for the "bad girl" It actually comes in handy if you ask me ;*

the first time i heard this song, i thought it was about a young woman infatuated of an older man, and asking him to take her out to have fun. but then i realised that in fact is about a young woman who is about to be imprisoned, and this is a desperate call for help directed to an older fellow criminal (probably a dealer) who is the one infatuated of her, and she is using her charme to convince him to help her flee town. she is trying to manipulate him, when she is talking ABOUT the man, she uses her mature voice, but when she is talking TO the man she uses her childish voice, to make him think she is a little girl in trouble, but yet she tells him what to do (do what i want/gimme the gold/pay us), and eventually they do leave town. i love her story telling.

Patrick Fazeli it kind of is, because she is using him, but he is getting something is return, which is her company. both parties are using each other, but she has to pretend not being aware of this as a part of her manipulation. she leads him to think he is in charge, when in reality she is in charge. she is facing jail time, there is nothing left to lose for her, so he is taking the entire risk.

She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita. Did she have a precursor? She did, indeed she did. In point of fact, there might have been no Lolita at all had I not loved, one summer, an initial girl-child. In a princedom by the sea. Oh when? About as many years before Lolita was born as my age was that summer. You can always count on a murderer for a fancy prose style. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, exhibit number one is what the seraphs, the misinformed, simple, noble-winged seraphs, envied. Look at this tangle of thorns.

Anyone I've told about Nabokov's novel cringed at first (best case scenario). You actually have to read the book to realise what's going on and what was the artist thinking when writing the lyrics for the song.

IS. JUST. ART!!!! WHO THE FUCK CARES what the song talks about, because YOU CAN BET that this is actual music with amazing background tracks and a girl with a good voice. at least we aren't listening to miley cyrus...*shudders* do NOT even get me started on THAT.

I always thought it was funny that "God's Top Ten Tips on How to Get to Heaven" somehow include, "Don't take my name in vain," "Have no idols other than me," and of course, "Keep holy the Sabbath," but not "Do not molest children" or "Do not rape the truly unwilling." Seems to me those might be a bit more important, but okay... If God said so...

It shines. The story, the persona. Pure Americana. Film noire, 50s LA. That an individual could have created this vision of a woman's life is beyond me. An x-ray of the soul in all earnestness, and yet, it's capricious, spurious, mischievous. The lost woman as hero. And a triumphant Lana as songwriter and queen. The live version is polished, brilliant and captivating. When will she star in a David Lynch film? They must both humble themselves.

The shouting at the background (I could barely make out some but some sounds like "up here!") adds such an interesting layer. It confuses me if it's her desperately looking for help or giddily inviting someone. Either way it feels like there are demented undertones which fits perfectly with a demented love song and that's one of many reasons I think Lana is an incomparable brilliant artist.

I don't think this song is ONLY about Lolita, there are various things in here that Lolita actually could never do; there's references of the girl in this song using alcohol, partying, running around town, being chased by 'something', and obviously her 'old man' does/dabbles with drugs from the 'cocaine heart' thing, not to mention being a 'thief', or a bad man that she says in a way that doesn't just stop at him liking little girls. I think this is Lana's song for herself, with a Lolita fantasy to it. I'm not saying Lana was ever a 'Lolita', I don't know about that, but Lana has already told of her fixation on older men, many of her past boyfriends got in trouble with the law and did drugs, went to jail; I can't remember if she said she's ever been at odds with the law herself, but she did reference being a troubled/alcoholic teen, and that may have had her cross paths with authorities. That line with the 'cause he know I'm wasted' doesn't really fit the fictional Lolita, but it does fit Lana's teenage self; plus the 'Face'n time again on Rikers Island' indicate a past record with jail time; I don't know if Lana's been arrested before, but that's just more evidence that she's talking about (possibly a fictional version of)herself, and not Lolita. Let's not mention the many modern/Californian things in Lana's songs that the characters of Lolita wouldn't/didn't have access to. Yes, the book did influence this song and many others, it's her favorite book, I guess, but I think Lana has written her own little Lolita 'book' with these songs, and not just singing about the actual published story; I believe Lana's Lolita story is a dramatization of herself staring as Lolita and ex(es) staring as Humbert/'Old Man'.
