Jason Bachtel is entering into his 1st season as the Offensive Coordinator for the @HCUFootball. Today we discussed about his early coaching career, his Texas State Title, his experience as a head coach at the collegiate level, and how he envisions success for his high flying offense.
Jason Bachtel joined the HCU Football staff as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in January 2023.
A Texas native, Bachtel has spent his entire career in the state. From 2021-22, he was the head coach at Howard Payne University, posting back-to-back 7-3 campaigns, setting a school record for wins by first-year head coach. Bachtel succeeded Harris as the head coach at HPU and now Bachtel’s brother, Kevin, is leading the Yellow Jackets.
Bachtel was the offensive coordinator at Argyle High School, helping lead the Eagles to the 2020 Texas 4A Division I state championship, while averaging 48.1 points per game. He spent three seasons as the Offensive Coordinator at East Texas Baptist University and one at North Forney High School.
After one season as offensive coordinator at Scurry-Rosser High School, Bachel was promoted to head coach from 2011-2017. In 2013, the Wildcats tied the school record with a 12-1 mark. Bachtel was an assistant coach at Galena Park and Gatesville High Schools and began his career as a student assistant at HPU.
Bachtel was a three-year letterwinner at quarterback at HPU from 1999-2001. He graduated from HPU with a bachelor of science degree in history in 2003 and a Master’s degree in educational administration from Lamar in 2018.
He and his wife, Tara, have four children: Talen, Bailee, Brooklyn and Blaire.
