Been following Red since the day Ted dropped the first hint. Really great to see behind the scenes.I'd even settle to see the 2K version! Awesome!

Friggin awesome...when are we going to get the 4K version?
@pipasforjaz14 жыл бұрын
There will be 2 RED SCARLET versions, one with a fixed lens (+-4750 USD) and a version that will only be a body (+-2750 USD) and individual lenses for +-900 each (called RED mini-primes)

And also, about 90 percent of red cam produced videos wont see theatrical run except maybe festivals. I shot a short film on a dvx100 and when projected, it look GREAT! I was surprised. So I'm not all that convinced about the need for 4k, especially since the 5D sensor is the size of 35mm film frames. $2k DSLR vs. a $30k+ red with all accessories to make it functional, could pay for an entire indie film itself. The bad part about DSLRs is rolling shutter.

We love the Red One. We wrapped a feature shooting on it. Amazing images and great workflow!! See clips from our previous films shot the old fashioned way on our channel!

adding to Globalscreenstudios post in regards to thegoosebrain's post. . . and if it was, it would have been degraded by encoding it for the web some, then by the way youtube host videos. even if you were watching it in HD (if that even works, since it never does for me!). . . RED is an excellent cam, and I can't wait to get my hands on one. . .

I use a 7D and am working on a demo project with it right now. It's amazing for the price, but the RED Scarlet (3K) will have higher quality recording with RED raw and awesome lenses. That being said, I am perfectly content with my 7D for the amazing image quality and film like picture control, plus the true 1080p24 recording.
@fourth100015 жыл бұрын
yes! Canons Eos Cameras are already starting to catch up in quality. The 5DM2 and 7D are being used as B and C roll cameras for Red cam involved productions. Do a search for canons new demo made by Vincent Laforett*. it's called Nocturn. Shot with their new Canon 1DM4, it's only $5K and a lot smaller than bulky red. Perfect for people who have to get back to their real jobs after filmming.

I just heard that the latest hot thing in Hollywood is to shoot movies with retro late 70s early 80s camcorders - for real - I read that Quentin Tarantino bought about a hundred JVC GR-A1Us and he and about 5 other big directors are shooting their next movies in that format.

I fully understand what your saying. What about those of us who have spent years in theAvid platform, and invested large sums of money in Avid based workflows? I'm really excited about the direction digital cinema is taking, I'm just saying as of this very moment, it is still surpassed by film in terms of image quality and adaptability. The Epic may yet change this and as times go by and R3D becomes an accepted standard things can only get better. This is coming from an experienced Red operator.

What is the benefit of having the camera operator on the crane? It seems like it would be much more efficient to have just the camera mounted to a remote pan/tilt on it and then the crane could be much smaller for the same job.
@onjofilms15 жыл бұрын
CrunchGear mentions that it will be an all-in-one camera with a fixed zoom lens.
@rockfilmers15 жыл бұрын
No, I'm pretty sure it doesn't have fixed lenses. Where did you here that from?
@ManikSethisuwan15 жыл бұрын
well resolution actually still a far way off. Red shoots at 4K (4480x1920) whereas 1DM4 shoots at HD (1920x1080). remember, when you take both footage and project it at the theatre you'd see the difference. also many other factors with the 1DM4, such as its difficulty to hold and focus, no manual control of aperture, shutter or iso, image degrades due to heat over time, no xlr inputs, etc etc.
@fourth100015 жыл бұрын
I'm not doubting you, but wouldn't you see the difference when 5D footages are used in a red one production or film productin such as George Clooneys Up in the Air film?
@dvaifilmsdotcom16 жыл бұрын
that was interesting. i want to work on films like that one day.

It was my understanding the Scarlet will have a fixed lens. That's one option you lose with the lower price model. (if it ever gets here)
@thebest54514 жыл бұрын
@tcpnet Then another $20,000 if you want all of the lenses, another $2000 if you want the power pack, another $1000 if you want the protective case to put it in, and the list goes on and on. It's crazy how much it would cost with all the accessories like the one in this video has.

@jimmehravs15 жыл бұрын
DoP? I sincerely hope you mean DoF. The Red does resemble film somewhat, but it is yet to surpass it. The Arri & Panavision film cameras are still used in the majority of big budget productions, the Red still teething problems: it's dynamic range can't match film; it has a difficult workflow when paired with Avid offline editing suites; and also there are issues when exposing under tungsten lighting and noise in the blue channel. I love Red; it isn't yet the death of film though.

I can't afford this, but I can afford the Canon 7D. It has great DOF and high ISO. Is better than the Canon 5D because it shoots real 29.97 and 60fps 720. It's going to give the RED 3k (which I totally respect and envy) a good run for it's money.
