Here in Texas there are several wildlife preserves that take in and rehabilitate exotic animals that are turned over by their owners or law enforcement. The animals are given medical care and are looked after for the rest of their lives. These aren't zoos where people can pay to visit, and often they allow veterinariary students to intern so they get exposure to animals they normally will never see.

@@dentyph5169 Waaay late but Polar bear would destroy a Gorilla. Gorillas are all muscle with very little fat, which makes them vulnerable to being shredded by the bears claws. Even if the Gorilla bit down on a Polar bear, it'd just be biting into fat, all while still getting torn up by giant claws and killed long before it got anywhere near deep enough to chomp into thick layers of fat before even reaching the bears protected muscles

I heard a story on a podcast awhile back in which a woman had a giant pet boa constrictor who slept with her in bed every night. But the snake stopped eating and the woman became very concerned for its health and consulted experts at a serpentarium about what may be wrong. They told her that this fasting behavior is done by snakes to make enough room in their stomachs to swallow large prey. Her "pet" snake was prepping so it could swallow her.

Hahaha thats a very "popular" myth and its not true. Boa constrictor cannot even swallow a human. Dont believe everything you hear on see on the internet. Snakes are opportunistic animals and will always eat when they can, they dont "make room" to swallow something.

Polar Bears are often over 1000 pounds have large protrusive mouths with really sharp teeth and really sharp claws. Not to mention Polar Bears' jaws are strong enough to bite through bone.

back in the 90's over in colorado. a family had a Labrador and they had a built in doggy door. well the dog liked to sleep on the edge of their bed. one night they woke up to the dog whining and looked to see a mountain lion dragging their dog off. luckly enough the manage to scare off the lion and the dog needed surgery.

ya.. it's hard to imagine a truly two-way relationship with creatures that are so very different than us.. such as a reptile. That alligator she was hugging.. I don't feel like it was hugging her back, I think it's just tolerating her presence. But I can't say it is impossible.. just hard to believe. I’ve seen documentaries for most of these cases and they usually hand raise these animals from a young age. Most mammals have no set idea of what “mom” looks like so “mom” is who ever feeds and takes care of them. THAT allows for strong bonds with the animals. As long as you take care of them and respect them you can have a close relationship that sometimes last decades. Think about it, there are still people out there who tame wild horses. Taming an animal is easier with pack animals but possible with most animals.

While that's somewhat true, it would be interesting to see data about how brain size could effect that. For example I would imagine most reptiles don't really have the brain area needed to develop bonds in the way humans presume, so there is always the chance their instincts trump any feelings we suppose they have. In a similar way we know big cats can develop social bonds but they are also hard wired to hunt and will often turn on each other in long bouts of captivity. So while it's true that people still break wild horses, the clue is in it's name, it's effectively breaking their will and forcing them to give up fleeing or fighting, I don't know how many "close bonds" people have with those parameters. There's also a big problem with drugging with regards to dangerous/exotic pets where people essentially keep them partially sedated to make them easier to handle and that's not really forming "bonds" either. I suppose it's all relative at the end of the day but I truly question the idea, that ANY animal can form close bonds with humans a lot of the time it seems more luck than science.

Growing up (in Tx) I lived down the road from a woman with a cougar/mountain lion. Had to walk past it on the way to some friends houses & you could hear it hollaring at night. Love animals but your reg house cats, dogs, fish aquariums etc are enough to take care of (too much sometimes)

Keeping a completely unintelligent wild animal as a pet isn't applying common sense at all. It's interfering with nature with no benefit to the animal and just feeding the selfish wants of a human that wants to parade something around and toy with it for fun. At least dogs, cats, and some other mammals and intelligent birds clearly can bond and enjoy themselves, having any other pet is basically just forcing a one way relationship with nature because it's suits them. It's not just the potential danger that doesn't make sense lol.

Not only was Ming the tiger living in an NYC apartment but he was living in the projects in Harlem, his owner was playing with him and got scratched in the leg and went to the Dr and he said it was a dog that attacked. The doctors looked at him like he was nuts and alerted the authorities ( from what I remember) It was a huge story out here in NYC a huge operation to even get the tiger out of the apartment. Im pretty sure the owner also had other exotic pets. You guys should react to the story of Ming the NYC tiger from the projects there are many videos here on youtube!

8:50 Lol...is that a British thing? My dog is snoring on the bed in the other room as I type this. And I'm allergic to dogs (you build up a tolerance to individuals, so I can handle her nearby). I get not wanting them on the bed if you're a very tidy person, but not wanting them in the bedroom? @@starofdabloc I'm surprised you haven't built up resistance to them. I have about a 2-3 week acclimation period, and then I'm mostly okay. Scratches while wrestling still bring welts (no big deal), and I shouldn't rub my eyes without washing my hands directly after petting, but the sniffles and sneezing go away. I'm sorry you still have a reaction. :-( Mind you, this is specific to the dog. I have full reactions when introduced to a new dog.

Allergic reasons aside, allowing pets that venture outdoors onto one’s bed = very unhygienic. Think about it. Your dog routinely walks outdoors collecting bacteria (often fecal) and other microbes on its paws. Basically the equivalent of stepping on your sheets with the shoes you wear everyday.

Unless it's a rescue animal that cannot be released back into the wild nor find a sanctuary that can take it, people should never be allowed to legally own wild animals (even "domesticated" wild animals) as pets. Particularly big cats, which are almost always just used for status and ego anyway. The moment one of these beautiful animals escapes into the neighborhood it is inevitably shot to death by cops who are just drooling over the opportunity to fire their weapons anyway.

I saw a documentary about a guy that was convinced domestic dogs came from foxes and not wolves and he had some compelling genetic and breeding testing on the subject. I don't recall which species of fox, but there was one, the gray if I had to guess, that had some really interesting genetic similarities. I'm not qualified enough to know how convincing the evidence was, but I did study a bit of biology in college and the grounds he was using seemed based on reasonable biological beliefs.

When they were younger, my dad owned a alligator, raccoons, turkeys and a skunk as pets, and my uncle had piranhas. I have owned a 9ft Red Tail Boa Constrictor before also.

Pretty much every animal can be trained especially if you've had them since birth. That whats amazing the relationship between humans and animals. When you understand animals language you'll understand humans alot more. Animals are curious just like us. We are the apex predators on planet earth for now. It's just the nature of things.

Many species can be trained. The problem is their instincts don’t really go away, a lot of them wind up escaping or being released into the wild, and “incidents” to varying degrees of severity with exotic pets are not rare. According to BFU there have been over 1500 incidents and somewhere from 70 to 100 deaths in the US since 1990 attributable to exotic pets. With big cats and various reptiles making up a large chunk of those deaths.

Humans don't solely rely on instinct and we tend to treat animals like humans. Throw a ball a dog's chase instinct will kick in. It's important to understand fight and flight animals. Irresponsible owners are a huge problem. Big cats is a tough one because we want to save them but feeding them doesn't teach them how to hunt.

There is a reality show on Disney plus cakes Dr. G’s exotic animal hospital and thus old lady brought in a pet lynx and the Dr. wouldn’t go in there room until she shot it with a tranquilizer through a crack in the door and let it go to sleep and when the lady came and picked it up the next morning she said how much she missed it the previous night because they sleep together every night. I wanted to yell at the lady to get a clue because if an exotic animal vet won’t even take care of it without tranquilizing it it’s not the one to be sleeping with every night!

Office blokes I grew up swimming with alligators here in South florida. It's impossible to keep kids off of a rope swing into the lake. Even when you can see all the alligators sitting there. Two facts, allow people to interact with alligators. They are generally only aggressive in mating season. They can get by eating once a year if they have to. So if it's not mating season, and they're well fed, they really have no reason to bite. The only guaranteed way, that I know of to make an alligator bite you, touch the inside of their mouth. But there are exceptions to that, there's a bird that stands on their inside of their mouth and cleans their teeth, by eating the meat between them. The gator knows to not close its mouth on the bird, but if you even remotely touch the inside of an alligator's mouth even with a drop of your own sweat, it's an auto response he locks down

The information on Agee and Jimbo was completely wrong. Jimbo was a 1000 lb. Kodiak bear who recently passed. Agee was was a young Polar bear when he was 800+ lbs. He is probably well over 1000 lbs. now.

A gorilla isn't strong enough and its skin isnt tough enough..its only weapon would be its teeth but a bears skin is flexible...a gorilla mom can pick her youngster up...the young gorilla can climb the only way for a bear to move her cubs is with her teeth...the skin is more tough and flexible.

Here in the US there was a woman who owned chimpanzee’s. Raised them since birth. They attacked her friend one day. She called 911 for emergency help. The entire time the operator stayed on the phone with her as her friend was literally being ripped to shreds. Unfortunately, the person was killed. The operator said it was the hardest moment in her job. To hear the screams and know there is nothing you can do. I think there is a KZbin video about it. You might have even reacted to it once. Saw a similar story in USA. A lady had a chimpanzee and you can find a recording of the 911 call. She is screaming and panicking as the chimp rips her friends face off and she is saying its ripping her face off. And she is saying kill it, kill it. The police shoot it dead, you hear it.

The owner raised 1 chimp named Travis, against her neighbors concerns. Her friend was attacked by it and had her face ripped off. Police had to kill the animal. The victim had several reconstructive surgeries but yes, lived to tell about it. Moral of the story is, don’t keep dangerous animals as pets. I don’t mean cats and dogs, I mean lions, tigers, CHIMPS. Eventually Nature will show its face by taking someone else’s.
