After he retired, my grandpa decided he wanted to be an extra in the movies. He didn’t live that far from the studios, and there was always extra work available. He’s been gone now for a couple of decades, but every now and then I’ll be watching a movie or old TV show, and there’s grandpa. I can’t remember what movie it was, but there’s a scene where the main characters are in a sauna, and as they pan the room, there’s grandpa again, wrapped in a towel and sweaty. It’s very weird.

As far as I'm aware, the "Tokyo Sandblaster" term was invented by the show and has no actual description for it. But yet is absolutely timeless, lol! Conan did put put a post on Twitter back in 2010 saying "Everyone keeps asking me what a "Tokyo Sandblaster" is. Tweet me your best guess. #tokyosandblaster" though. So there are numerous potential descriptions floating out there invented by fans as it sparks a lot of imagination.

Ah, movie censors. I remember as a kid watching "The Hard Way" with James Woods and Michael J. Fox, where they replaced "Son of a bitch!" with "Slug in a ditch!" It was a traumatic experience for me, I was so triggered.

Not only do they dub over swear words for films on certain US channels, but they even cut away and slow down footage to match the visuals so you don't see their lips saying the words. Saw it while on holiday in the US for Pulp Fiction, the opening bar scene

The Mr Falcon is definitely real. What’s worse is how in the Big Lebowski, they changed a line to ‘You ever meet a stranger in the Alps?’ instead of ‘you ever f- a stranger in the a-‘? Censors are weird
@ripro83 Жыл бұрын
Can confirm. If I remember correctly, TBS originally or some Turner Broadcast channel, did this dubbing as well as the aforementioned Big Lebowski dub. See also the dubbing on the film Tremors. I believe they used the overdub of "Squirrel You!" instead of "fuck you!" Sigh. Crazy Christians and their distorted censoring. Welcome to America.

Tokyo Sandblaster is not a real thing, BUT they've used it on the Conan Show (so it's a real thing there). It's when someone sprays a stream of diarrhroeia directly into someone's face, at high speed, usually by pressing their butt cheeks together to increase the pressure and force of the blast

And yeah, you’re right Dave. Censorship has existed as long as known language and society, things change. It has some uses, and some dangers. People removing what really boils down to literary context for the sake of virtue signaling is slacktivism.

i like that you brought up the Roald dahl stuff, it has been a big topic in norway this week, (roald dahl was norwegian) and it has kind of concluded now with that they wont change anything on the norwegian books, but they will change some words on the english books, the fat versus enormous part was just hillarious to listen to people discussing. richard hammond would have to call clarkson 'the enourmous man' now.

Oh. Yeah. Here in America they protect the children from bad language, but we show violence on television constantly. We know it's nonsense and antiquated, but old men own these channels & they have morals. In all honesty, it's all the channel sponsors who hold issue with it. Without sponsors, no Television channels.

Man, trying to take basic words out of circulation is getting ridiculous. Can’t say something is fat now? For me, I noticed how stupid it’s getting when I tried to post a comment on Yahoo and it got rejected because of the word Looney. Even though my use of the word was talking about a basketball player who had that as his last name. Absolute stupidity…

I enjoy watching your content. Your discussion on the evolution of politically correct vernacular was perfectly acceptable and light-hearted. English has been commonly know as 3 languages stacked in a trenchcoat, pretending to be one language. This actually applies to PC speech as well. The constant evolution of the English language as new generations use it can be very difficult and frustrating. In my case, I think of my mother. Born with Arthrogryposis, she went through the educational system in America during the 70s and 80s. Children were beyond cruel then, and adults believed bullying "built character". Today my mother still doesn't like going out in public. While being PC can be frustrating, it shouldn't be thought of as the destruction of free speech. It should be seen as speaking to one another with humanity. Keep being awesome, gents. 😁

Movies on broadcast tv/cable in the US general dont have swearing. so when they choose to show certain things they either blur/beep or dub. They get rather absurd with things like Sam Jackson's famous line on the movie "Snakes on a Plane" kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGXXZ62Ej5KVZqM
