The Rookie is an American police procedural crime drama television series created for ABC by Alexi Hawley. The series follows John Nolan, a man in his forties, who becomes the oldest rookie at the Los Angeles Police Department. The series is based on real-life Los Angeles Police Department officer William Norcross, who moved to Los Angeles in 2015 and joined the department in his mid-40s.
The series stars Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Titus Makin Jr., Mercedes Mason, Melissa O'Neil, Afton Williamson, Mekia Cox, Shawn Ashmore and Eric Winter.

LAPD has green tasers because green is the color of their non-lethal shotgun that shoots bean bags, and they wanted all their non-lethals to be the same color.

Nolan actually did put in a call for backup at what sounded like “Westwood Metro Station” at the beginning of the clip.

They have one episode where Nolan does get sued for knocking down a civilian. Civilian loses for totally "diving"

One thing I don't get about this show is one shot they will have a taser on their duty belt but the next camera shot it will have magically disappear

I do enjoy this show for its entertainment value, but I’ve started to like watching these guys just to see the difference just a few short years makes as far as training standards. My academy class did not have anyone get tased, and Axon actually took voluntary exposure out of their official curriculum when they released the X2. Also not sure if this is accurate lol but we were taught the confetti was in case a taser was ever like, stolen and used in the commission of a crime or something, so if they didn’t recover the device, like the offender took it with them, the serial could be traced to a lot number and they could see when and where it had been purchased and try to establish history that way.

I'm glad you have found some value in the training. We are from the days when everyone got tased and sprayed 😅 We also come from an academy that required 2800+ hours of training (Arlington TX PD) and I think policy changed due to optics/politics and the history low retention rate/recruiting issues. God bless you guys that are still both doing the job and signing up to do it, but there are A TON of things they've removed or never added to training that will continue to handicap y'all ability to safely do the job unfortunately.

Agreed, from a veteran commenting on Veterans Day, I must say your channel caught my attention due to the content you produce that bridges the gap between LEO opposers and civs who understand, towards the reality of what LEO’s actually experience and go through during these situations, a politically direct advertisement shirt may create a negative effect of said content on the viewers! I agree, on one side it takes time to watch it, on the other side they can give a more accurate response on the scenes if they know what happens why and who is who. There was one reaction they did where they thought the rookies are no rookies but still on the academy because they learned for some test in one scene. And so they give their reaction based on the asumption that those rookies are no cops yet, because they are still on the academy.

So the Air Force doesn’t require you to be tased because taser(the company) doesn’t require it. Carried a taser for 3 years and was never tased.
