officer401 I recall one foot chase in which the perp went over a wooden fence. Only problem (for him) was on the other side of the fence was a swimming pool. Needless to say to say, he was soaked from head to toe. I am a new subscriber and there are three things I really need info on. 1) You are driving down a highway and a vehicle pursuit is coming up on your left. You want to pull over onto the shoulder but when you check your mirror and there is a unit flat getting it on the shoulder. What is the proper thing to do in that situation? 2) Be cause of a combination of a head injury and nerve damage in the low back (has been operated on 4 times) and my balance is not very good at all. Is there any way a field sobriety test can be done on someone who requires a quad cane or walk? 3) Same neurological as above, but you are an innocent passenger in a vehicle that ends in a felony stop situation and you need your quad cane or walker to walk and you are physically unable to comply with the felony stop procedure. What happens in a case like that? When I did my law enforcement major many years ago these scenarios were not covered back then and I did not have the neurological problems than I have now. As I wrote at beginning of my comment, I am a new subscriber. What do I need to do to become a patron subscriber and is there a minimum amount that is required? I ask this because I am on Social Security Disability.

I passed a cop about 2 days ago he had somone pulled over, I bet he was easily 300+ pounds maybe 350 I was thinking there is no way he is catching anyone. How can a 300+ pound guy be an officer or pass a physical? Now it was a small town so they might have been hard up for cops. Whats your thought on obeasly out of shape cops? I have no doubt I could lose this guy in 1 one block if he were to chase me and I'm 6'3 200#'s.

JDH well lets start with how he became a cop. The physical test isn't really that difficult and you only have to pass it to get hired after that some departments never do it again. About chasing people, in a smaller town most of the time you see the same people and you know everyone so if they run just cut a warrant and get them later.

Moto's pretty much right. A lot of departments have a one time or yearly physical exam or course. Not very many departments maintain a strict workout regimen. Some officers just choose to stay in shape, and others let themselves go.

Able Danger if you're in the army to should just stick your daily PT once you get out. Run about 3 miles daily and do bench press, curls, and squats. Just to keep yourself muscular enough to win a fight. The running is so your legs are in shape and ready to run after someone.

I must say, I have to give you a lot of respect for doing what you do, given that so many in society don't give a shit about cops, or flat out spew hate and discontent for them. I know I couldn't do it, having worked as a paramedic for a few years in a major metro area I have seen the worst society has to offer, and just how ungrateful people can be. There isn't enough money or satisfaction in the job for me to get shot at over some shit that has nothing to do with me. Keep up the good work, and stay safe out there.
