like Hon said, it's obviously a convertible, so it absolutely needs that (just like the motorized center console)......also, the new HUD on the S-class [which (will) trickle(s) down the main lineup], simply doesn't allow for something like this.

That beautiful chalk gray SL 55 with silver wheels looks so much better than that red SL 63. Looks even better with yellow calipers. Nice job, AMG. Huge improvement over previous generation.

@@parvezzz15 Yellow is Carbon ceramics for Porsche, carbon ceramics are Gold for AMG. Yellow brakes in an AMG is just a paint option/sometimes maybe a higher trim brake system but not carbon ceramics

The SL63 looks better. The 63 has more black out exterior than the 55 version, looks more aggressive. And they use more carbon fiber trim, more alcantara and the top level AMG seats.

I actually prefer the white of the 55, it shows off the lines of the SL very well and it contrasts nicely with the black roof. While it's a pretty-ish car, the interior is much more inspiring than the exterior. So grand, opulent, eye-candy while retaining functionality. The 992 Cabrio and BMW M8 Convertible are gonna be terrified of this thing.

I've never been a huge fan of soft tops, or convertibles at all, but when the soft top roof is up on the 63 it's arguably the most gorgeous looking car currently available. Don't think it would look as good with a hard top though.

What a stunningly beautiful car this is! This new model has so many nice touches. The lines are just right, the rear is wonderful. Really liking the SL55 with that color and rims, so nice! I do hope Mercedes will be making gullwing doors somewhere in the near future, that’s just pure heritage. Should never be possible to stop that. I expect Mercedes to be succesful with this model, that would be well deserved.

Excellent video presentation and preview - evokes the 911 cab, especially in the shape/transition of roof into boot and rear side window. I’m on the pre-order list for the new SL after I decided against the GT-C; I want all the new-gen tech/luxury goodies! The SL(63) will be my new weekender, though it quite looks like it could handle daily driver assignments. It will join my 2017 W222, which I absolutely love and have already owned longer than my typical 3-4 year upgrade cycle. I can see the new SL being another keeper, and I’ve not been this excited since my 2005 SLK55! Das Beste oder Nichts, ja?!

I love that the 55 AMG has the exact same BHP figure as the last 5.5 supercharged engines. I had an E55 in the early 200s and that figure was immense back then. I wonder if the torque is the same, too. That may be too affecting a facet too mess about with, though.

The good thing about the old SL was that it wasn't an AMG. This looks more like a Z4 from the side. The one thing that was brilliant on all the old SL's was the hard top roof which is a much better profile than this soft top version, which looks more like a saloon with a soft top. Who on earth thought that enormous screen inside was a good idea. Hyper analogue interior, there is nothing analogue about it. I think the comment referencing the 911 cabriolet says it all. The SL was never a competitor to the 911. From a current owner of an SL this is very disappointing...

Absolutely agree with you. They made some very poor decisions with the new SL, like making it a 2+2 with a soft top roof. Also, the exterior design is uninspired and will no doubt age very badly, given that each SL generation is supposed to stay in production for 10+ years. I would prefer a good retro-inspired design, ideally based on the original gullwing or SL190. Performance wise, I can't complain but I think the new car is definitely overengineered; I would prefer a simpler and lighter car with less complicated parts that could potentially fail after a couple of years. I'm an R230 SL owner btw.
