I did a lot of tweaking with my mame setup and found the only way to get decent trackball sensitivity in Retropie is to use the AdvanceMame emulator - unfortunately this requires downloading and installing a different mame romset for the trackball games. It was a pain but now the trackball control feels more like the original arcade games.

Good to know. I’ve played with the settings and tried to match the movement of my trackball on Centipede with my actual Centipede machine and I’ve got it close, but not quite close enough.

Great video. Retro Ralph tried to demo this on a live stream but the RPi was missing from the box. You should do a follow-up video adding a spinner. Micro Center has an Atari branded USB spinner for $50 (I got it on sale for $40) and it has good weight. It uses the same 28mm hole as a standard arcade button, so it should be simple for you. The hardest part will be finding a good place to drill the hole.

I convert pandora boxes to raspberry pi builds and this is a way cleaner build. Priced right and basically add a new image. I wouldn’t mind seeing a Raspberry Pi 4 install on your channel. I never had luck with gpio pins and a custom power button on the pi4.....

As long as I can add more ROMs from other systems on it... including those systems that the current owners of Atari don't seem to realize even exist like the Lynx, 8-Bit computers, ST family & Jaguar (Once Retropie gets an emulator for that system that works...)

Retropie is good for Atari systems except the jaguar. It can do Atari 2600 5200 7800 lynx the Atari 400 800 etc.

Retropie appears to do everything or almost everything up through Sega Dreamcast including DOS.

I have this and really enjoy it with the Pi4. They also offer a stand for it, as well as Atari themed vinyl art for the stand. My MC local to me has a ton of arcade stuff. I grabbed this and the Atari GRS style drop in spinner and even the Tron Stick from GRS, all at MicroCenter.

I received this as a Christmas gift and I am a complete and absolute newbie to all of this. I thought that I could update Retro Pie to get more Atari games so I hooked it up and updated it. The next morning I found out that none of the controls or buttons worked. I am sure this can be fixed but I am afraid to do any more damage than I already have. Is there an easy fix that a complete newbie can do?

It's totally solid and worth it! They sell a stand too that I want to get and T-molding to go along with it in different colors.

I think he had the computer that had an atari slot on it... dont remember but i played adventure. And i also had the plug and play joystick. I dont get to play atari as often as id like these days. And its just not the same using modern controllers, but this would be better.

I sprang for the one with just the two players and no Pi. Was about 120 which wasn't too bad; hoping to make it into a nice ghetto arcade cab for the dude dungeon. Hopefully it won't be too hard to implement my own Pi into the setup. I'd rather use my own Lakka install than whatever image Atari had premade.

@D. basically a stick with a trigger or button on it, like in Afterburner. It's used in Tron so you could use the stick, spinner and button on the stick at the same time which is vital for Tron outside of the Light Cycles

Anyone have any pros cons over this Atari fight stick vs the X-Arcade tankstick? I'm building my first cabinet now, and was considering speeding it up by getting one of these options, or possibly just building one myself, but then I have to do a lot more research on good controllers and how to do the wiring. I do like that X-Arcade has a lifetime warranty and it seems they've worked to improve lag with some updates. LMK!

Yeah but I convert pandora boxes and this is way cleaner. Way better setup and it’s a good price. You can basically add your own image with over 6000 games or more if you wanted too. Be nice to see if it’s workable with pi4

The trackball by itself usually costs like $50, that's not on the Pandora. Plus you just download new pi image on SD card with 10,000 games. Sticks and buttons nicer on Atari, in my opinion

A little off subject here, but has anyone that has purchased the Evercade had any problems with the unit restarting frequently while using an HDMI cable? It seems that any slight movement while holding the unit will cause it to restart and go back to the title screen. Does not happen if I hold the unit perfectly still while playing. Very annoying, but wondering if this is wide spread, or If I may have a defective unit.

How do you open up the menu that you used to change the track ball sensitivity??? Either like you did or with a key board. Tab does not work, neither any of the F keys i believe my entire image is conpletely messed up

Its just an arcade stick, you cannot use it to power off the pi to begin with with it being stock or just plugged into the USB. Now there are a few options... You can use an inline power switch... or wire a button to the GPIO and have it triggered a shutdown script. Now shuttind the pi down via software is the norm and you can just use the stick to enter the menu options of retropie and select shutdown, but to have it shutdown with a button or switch would have to go the route I mention here.

Well since the gamer pro can be used with a retropie setup as well and comes with some games and is currently going for the same price at Sams Club, I actually prefer that to this. But I just saw this as more a I can make a specific build for it. The gamer pro I can do a lot of the same stuff so I guess its more of what do you think looks better and the potential each has.

The thing that makes me mad with all of these units is that there is always something that prevents it from being a really good product. In this case the build quality is great but the software is not. I think the best arcade sticks like this so far are the neo geo arcade pro and capcom fight stick and the at games one you reviewed recently. I just wish there was one that just did everything right without us having to mess with crap on our end.
