How many times has the MTA charged more and said "This is the program that will bring in the needed money to improve the system for all New Yorkers?" It's all BS while their board gets record bonuses, builds and renovates stations for Long Islanders, purchases malfunctioning robots, intensionally installs turnstiles they knew were easily circumventable giving them yet another scapegoat (fare evasion) to raise prices and so on and so on and so on. This program wasn't going to do anything but hurt small businesses and make life even harder/unhealthier for poor neighborhoods. Whether they end up instituting congestion pricing or the MTA moves on to the next scam, the average rider was never and will never see or feel any meaningful improvements.

But most the people who drive into Manhattan don't pay taxes in Manhattan or even the state of New York. That's the problem. The city is forced to subsidize car drivers despite less than a third of households in Manhattan even owning a car. It sounds like you're a freeloader who wants things for free.

The MTA could have had the program implemented on schedule but they were being bullies. First $15 is crazy. Second they didn't want to negotiate with the workers that have to drive into the city, the businesses that were going to suffer or the commuters who were going to have to pay even more exorbitant prices for good that are way overpriced already. With so many people who are going to be negatively affected I think they should get the people who are championing congestion pricing to volunteer to pay $15 every time they come into the city since they think its such a good plan.

There’s congestion because roads are literally cut in half or 1/3 due to the bike lanes added so of course traffic increases which causes congestion. So whose fault is it?

People of America should celebrate this decision . Because if New York City got away with this it would be only a matter of time before every large city in America used this preposterous concept. I live in Chicago and go to about 20 White Sox games a year and 30 Cubs games and it would cost me an additional $15 to 25 bucks a year to see them since i have to travel through the city. That's an additional $1,250 a year just to see the games New York City was the first City in America to introduce 🔴 Red Light Cameras as a tax grab .. Now every city in North America has them (including Canada) as i said it would only be a matter of time

@@SugarHillHoney true, but if someone can’t even use an e-bike or another micro mobility device they shouldn’t be driving as well. They need a chauffeur. These people are also a small part of the population. The more able bodied people using the bike lane and public transport, the better the driving conditions for people in cars who actually need them. The goal with various transportation modes is to provide multiple options for people, so no singular form of transportation gets bogged down.

@@SugarHillHoney If a person won't/can't use a bike or other micro mobility option due to the weather they can take public transportation like the bus or subway which has heating/AC. The congestion tax would have paid for the 2nd avenue subway expansion further into Harlem. It also would have paid for more ADA additions (ie elevators, ramps, etc) to various subway stations so senior citizens and the disabled can better access the public transportation network we already have. But with this cancellation we can say good bye to these things. I'm glad we agree! We should absolutely tax the vehicles traveling below 60th!

I also shouldn't have to be forced out of my damn car because of this ridiculous "law" no one voted for this, they got way ahead of themselves. As currently set it's ridiculous. You also aren't thinking of all the vehicles being redirected uptown by the GWB and elsewhere because of people driving over NJ and dumping their cars uptown just to avoid the extra $15 fee. None of that got taken into account, they're full of it if they say that they did. I live on 54th and 10th, 3 blocks out from the west side highway, I shouldn't have to pay $15 between 5am and 9pm just to get home, it's insane. Meters are like $6.75+ an hour upto 7pm, the rules below 60th as is are insane if you have a personal vehicle.
