I worked at Tesla starting in July of 2017 as an Operations Analyst out of the Bethlehem, PA distribution center facility and left as a Program Manager based out of Austin, TX as of September 2021. I spent most of my time in the distribution and supply chain organizations.
Before Tesla, I was a Director of Business Intelligence and Pricing at the largest Pet Food & Supply distributor in the US, Phillips Pet Food & Supplies based out of Easton, PA. My wife and I also owned a small business in Bethlehem, PA between 2016 and 2019.
I have been a shareholder of Tesla since 2012 and currently own Tesla stock.
My thoughts are my own and are not representative of everyone who currently works, or has worked at Tesla.

My instincts are saying the price will be $64,900 for dual motor and $79,900 for the tri-motor.

.45 is a lower velocity round than a 9mm but packs a lot of energy. Higher velocity rounds would likely penetrate. Still much better than any other truck.

9mm is what everyone is shooting these days. .45 is just really pricey to shoot. If you are going to be shot at---it will likely be with a 9mm and probably comming out of a Glock---you know, the guns made by swamp people, for swamp people.

Velocity is not relevant. It is all about kinetic energy and shape/hardness of the projectile. Also, velocity is highly dependant on the length of the barrel from which the projectile is fired.

The curb wights are phenomenal and almost spot on what Sandy Munro predicted! The Chevy Silverado is well over 8k-lbs and the Rivian is 8.5k! The stock should rebound just on that alone. 😅

The Chevy curb weight is for the full ton/3500. Diesel in that class can tow upwards of 30k+ pounds.

Really appreciate your different methods of arriving at probable CT pricing. A dual motor in the $60-$65k range after subtracting the $7.5k makes sense and should sell well.

The tongue weight of the trailer or fifth wheel must be subtracted from the vehicle payload capacity to determine how much people and stuff you can carry inside the truck. Tongue weight is usually maximum 10% of GVWR of the trailer.

you mention the motor as weigh increase for the tri-motor and while it will weigh a few pounds more the main weight will be the extra 70kWh or so battery capacity to give it the 200 extra miles of range :) Great examples and news! :)

A 45 ACP FMJ is not a great penetrator due to the large frontal area. But you need to consider that the Thomson SMG has 10.5‘ barrel which will give it more velocity

@@swampcastle8142 I was being facetious. The only 45s that bounced off B&C's car were glancing blows. Sheet metal in the 1930s was about 16 gauge (1.6mm} and now we use around 22 gauge (0.7mm). Cybertruck has been speculated to have about 11 gauge (2.9mm) (7/64”) thick stainless of unknown grade. A .22mag will often penetrate 16 gauge under the right conditions, maybe even a .22LR but I cannot confirm that.

@@zurielsss From my (armless) armchair, it would seem better to just drop the dual motor at that price and focus on tri motor if that is the case. OR, drop the tri motor and do the quad motor, but idk.

I think the GVWR is "up to 9000/10000 lbs," which in turn makes the curb weights "up to 5500/6500 lbs." But I wouldn't be surprised if the dual motor had a reduced payload capacity (being the lower trim), which in turn would reduce its GVWR..

5500lbs sounds too light for CT Dual Motor. Payload also very high for a battery EV truck. Payload not official, just posted claims. TMY LR is 4400lbs. Why not compare to Lightning? I know bed is 5’5” “aluminum.

The tri motor will come in at $72,950 to make room for FSD that was reserved at $7k. That’s my guess.

FYI Usually heavier versions of a truck lower the usable weight. The caviate is that if a truck is too short the bed rating can go down due to front to rear weight balance. My thought is that a tri motor with more front weight can take the higher rating. Not so much that the power will be diffrent.

The price difference between the dual and tri motor models will be way more than $5k. For $5k everyone would choose the trimotor. They will want to sell more dual motors to stretch battery production. In the reveal, the difference was $20k between the two models.

A Tommy Gun was/is a small sub-machine gun, that traditionally, but not necessarily, uses a round magazine. It was inherently dangerous because it was unwieldy, inaccurate and the recoil caused the nozzle to push up and to the left, with some force and it was loud. It was developed for the army and used extensively during World War II. It was also a favoured weapon of 1920's gangsters because of its size, rapid fire and the that the round magazine held more rounds than a more conventional straight magazine. "Tommy" is a truncated version of its full name "Thompson Submachine Gun".

The cybertruck uses the outer shell partly as an exoskeleton, like structural beams. Of course, the doors can't be used as beams, but if the thickness of the doors is similar to the rest of it, it is going to be way more bulletproof than a regular truck. I read that the cybertruck shell is 3 mm thick. Conventional trucks are 1 mm thick or less. Many now are aluminum, which would hardly slow the bullet down. That said, apparently most rifles will penetrate 3 mm of steel. But the next question is whether it will slow the bullets down enough to be less deadly.

Question: Musk said that the CT would start at 40k during the unveiling in 2019. It will be interesting to see if any reservations drop out. If the CT comes in 25-30k higher than originally "suggested", you don't think people will react negatively to that? ? Sure the price wasn't set, but 65 or 70k was never suggested with the $100 reservations poured in.

40K was for a single motor version that is likely (and hopefully) never going to exist. The range of it was very subpar. So, 50K was dual and 70K was tri at the unveiling.

The "Tommy" gun, or Thompson submachine gun, has a capacity of FIFTY rounds of .45 ACP ammunition in it's drum magazine. When you see one used in WWII, it usually has a smaller capacity magazine instead. Impressive that none of the rounds penetrated. Scratches will be a thing of the past with this vehicle.

I want to see the truck be shot with 9mm FMJ 115 GRAIN, as stated by Tesla! The Thompson Machine Gun and semiautomatic counterparts use the 45ACP cartridge, larger surface area even using the 230 grain weight FMJ, only about 800 feet per second at muzzle. 9mm 115 grain about 1100 fps, higher velocity, lower surface area assuming FMJ’s! Still very impressive, try that with a new F150 and you will get hit through the door! How far away makes a big difference also, and did Elon get to do the typing? Chicago Typewriter Style! so I think your incorrect about the ratings. I don't know but am assuming that the dual motor and trimotor will be placed on the same placed on the same frame... so adding motor weight to a vehicle will reduce the payload. In other words adding a battery weight and motor weight will reduce the payload in the vehicle.... the extra motor will allow for more power not weight rating so it will haul it easier or maybe be able to pull more?

X is a terrible name. It's not just a letter of the alphabet, but could also be construed as "ex-" so when it is mentioned, a listener has to use context to parse what the speaker means. When X becomes an "everything app," such as when payment functionality is added, mentions of it may become even more challenging.

The bullet thing was obviously a setup, if that metal stopped45 cal bullets the steel is either VERY thick or the gun was very far away. It would be interesting to see the video of them doing it, it wouldn’t be the safest place to be given the potential for bullet fragments flying around.

Have you seen them hit the doors with a sledgehammer and there was no dent? It is very strong steel meant for the SpaceX starship... The flat shapes is because they could not bend the steel.

@@0ooTheMAXXoo0 Big difference between a hammer where the force of impact is distributed across an area to that of a 45 bullet. As I understand it the steel is 3mm thick, that’s not going to stop a bullet and the kind of range that would give the spread shown in those doors. As I say, they will have a video which will be interesting to see.

The official maximums are one thing, the payloads mentioned at the announcement another. I don't think it's a good idea to assume that 3500 pound payload will still be valid. I do think it will be close though, if not the same, and it makes the Hummer EV look even more ridiculous.

I do not think those are helpful comparisons. - Rivian R1T's bed is much smaller and F150's range under towing will be much lower.

@@farzyness 90% of people who have trucks don't tow with them, and very few ever fill up the box. The most common trim for F150 sales is the Super Crew (4 full doors) and 5' box (5.5' actual size). I have a 6.5' box on my Super Crew and I had to go across town to find one because they are not near as common. Most truck owners don't care to have the extra foot of bed space, they would rather have a truck that is shorter and has a better turning radius. The exciting thing to me about the Cybertruck is that it'll be shorter then an F150 with a 5.5' box and will have a tighter turning circle too. Box size really isn't a big factor to 90% of the truck buyers. Out of my neighbours and my 2 bothers and my father, 10 truck total, I'm the only one that has a 6.5' box, all of them have shorter boxes, some have Tacomas or Handa trucks that have even smaller boxes.

I agree with you - he's comparing apples and oranges here - when apples and apples is available at least for the Rivian, F150 and the Silverado pickup EVs. Compare apples to apples. Very few traditional pickup buyers are likely to seriously consider the CT especially in the near term. If they consider an EV - it'll very likely be within the same brand since many pickup buyers are brand loyal as a general rule. I think a both/and approach would be best - have columns for gas models - and columns for EV pickups. The comparisons for the EV pickups are likely to produce better estimates when it comes to your GVWR comparisons especially - given even the CT is likely to have larger packs than many surmise in my estimate. Lastly, there's been several posts over time that show the CT bed will only be 6 feet. It won't be 6.5 feet as in the spreadsheet example you're using. That may not sound like much but it makes a difference. This means the beds in the other EV pickups are comparable in size. The good news of course - is we will all know for sure very soon! :-)

The Cybertruck cannot have a payload of 3500 lbs given the new GVWR with the VIN releases. I expect the payload will be reduce to 2000-2200 lbs now.

Of course, we don't know any of this, but it is more likely that the base Cybertruck price will be closer to the base F150 even though the Cybertruck is closer to a F250 in capabilities. The weight difference between the dual and tri- motor should not be 1000lbs. This makes me think the dual more is close to the max 9000 gvwr but the tri-motor might have just gone over. Not upto 10,000lbs but maybe just 9200. The price difference between a dual and tri-motor with Tesla (think plaid) is more likely to be $20k. That could make the dual-motor something like $59k (leaving $49k for a single motor variant they will likely never actually produce) and $79k for the tri-motor. Just my thought on previous pricing from Tesla. I think the 45% markup might work for a low profit margin RAV-4 but isn't necessary for a high profit margin Fx50 truck.

Using your logic, and coming up with your estimate of $70,000 to $75,000+, makes a lot of sense. If the 2 models come in between $70K and $79K, those seem to be fair pricing. Especially if you compare to a Rivian, Lighnting or Silverado 4WT.

That is priced out of nearly everyone, and the true truck for work guys who actually pay that much for trucks need the range a diesel provides. If the price isn't what was stated before, 39,990, 49,990, 59,990 its going to be a big ol oof, which will prevent scaling, which will be a total catastrophe.

@@DylanKoenig An Electric Pickup, no matter who is manufacturing it, is expensive to build. Rivian, Ford, GM, or Tesla. You need big batteries, which add a lot to the cost. I think there is a lot of value in a $70,000 EV pickup built by Tesla, with all the Tesla benefits. PROVIDED it has decent range. No one is building a $59,000 Tri-motor EV pickup. It simply is not possible.

@@billsrelectric tri motor was starting at 69,990. The new battery they have been ramping up, the new building material (30x cold rolled stainless), and massive cast parts are the key to cost effectiveness. If it isn’t a cost no brainer for consumers it’s DOA.

@@DylanKoenig I am not cancelling my reservation....no matter the price. I personally know many that have reservations, and they are going to complete their order no matter. The Cybertruck reservation list so huge, and so few will be built in 2024, there will be no problem selling it for the first couple of years.

The model X is eligible and so will the CT be, different car types have different cap of max cost. Both Model X and CT will be eligable as long as the total cost is max 80 000USD.

Different categories of vehicles have different price caps. Sedans are are around 55k and SUV I believe 80k. Not sure where pickups fall to be honest, but you get the idea.

@@jonasgranlund4427 Understand. THe "S" is a 4 door car like the Model 3 only a bit mote upscale, longer range, and a hatch, and its about $75k usd. It's not eligible, and I don't understand why. The "S: is a more practical car than the "3". It's certainly a lot easier to get luggage, etc into it.
