I do think that there's more that Second Dinner could do for eSports tournament type stuff but I think it's ultimately a mistake for them to invest much into it without there being that much of an established desire. I believe all eSports has to START as a grassroots movement. The audience has to be there before things get built around it, it isn't a "if you build it, they will come" type of thing.

Absolutely right. Most Good esports are built by the fan base, and if SD is more focused on their game being balanced fun, and fresh that should be their priority. If they don't wanna spend money,and man power to support comp then they shouldn't. Esports in general is problematic with marvel snaps formula because the meta always changes, and eventually they will have so many cards you have ban some interactions, and card design can DEFINITELY TAKE a hit.

I think he's a lot more interesting if it's the other way round. Same stats as current (6 cost, 11 power) but copies a 5 cost effect. Some of the most powerful effects with a 6 cost stat line. Still has the randomness to even things out.

@@syn0za but also, many 6 cost effects are underwhelming when you can't dedicate your deck to leverage them. Even with the stat line. But with a bit of deck engineering, either energy cheating ahead of curve or game extension via magik then the version of hulkling copying a 5 cost could be a hell of a lot more effect than he currently is copying a 6. It's not game breaking either. Goes from lackluster and a bit boring to spicy with a few gameplay requirements

I would LOVE a Custom Games mode that would let the player base make a competitive scene from the grass roots. Snap is an incredible opportunity because it's so unique and easy to understand. It could be such a cheap investment for Second Dinner that it makes me think most of their dev team is on the art side and there's a small amount of devs working on new modes.

I personnally love the grappel, for the same reason I often play ghost spider in some non move decks, just to fuck with my opponent ; and grappel gives you that possibility without slotting a card you might not need in your deck (ergo ghost spider). One of my favourite combo with those are aero (even if after the nerf it became worse), and fucking gamora because that way you get to chose were that power goes even if they're playing their card at a location where you can't win even with gamora. Myu last secret tech with grappel (or ghost spider for that matter) is to play legion where you need his effect and then get the power where you need it ! No, really, I think the grappel is the second best arrow and is far greater than you guys give it credit for... (Honestly I don't even like the acid arrow that much, I just know it annoys people to get it on their side of the board because it annoys me when I get it on mine, so that's why it's the best but in terms of skill and fun, grappel is just up there)

I guess Marvel Snap would need to make adjustments to its acquisition system to become relevant in the competitive scene, cause assuming it might attract talents, those might not be up for grinding their way for month, to get ready. If you compare that to other card games, it's quite obvious. A competitive MTG player just buys a good deck of Lorcana and starts playing it. This does not apply to Marvel Snap imho

I think they could keep their current aquisition state for the base game and have a seperate area for competitive in which all the cards are unlocked. Like a new menu tab in the game in which you have a seperate deck building system and you can experiment with everything. Just a thought but it would solve these issues

That's not even the biggest issue. The casual community is the most important part of ANY gaming community so they have to want this. Competitive is very Tricky because there's so much technical that's goes into it, and now you have to manage to keep 2 sides of your player base happy . I don't think people understand that competitive scenes are a very risky gamble that offers to hurt the company more if it goes wrong.

Grapple is so good when used with acid arrow, if you want to clog their lane but your afraid the may fill it and block it, use grapple arrow then play acid on a free lane you know can make it over the grapple pulls it over to fill the lane if they didn't or if they did acid still at least gets sent over

I cut cass nova in favor of speed in my sandman list and he is noticeably more effective for holding a lane. Especially since he is so much better played after turn 3 unlike cass. I’ve been cutting cass in a lot of decks tbh as ariahem stocks have fallen and honestly she just feels so bad if you don’t have her on 3, while she also feels like you have to play her on 3 or not at all sometimes.

Competitive scene for Snap will be limited to community-run events unfortunately. SD is only willing to do content creator-only invitational events, which makes sense. Snap is designed to milk both casuals and tryhards alike with how they designed their monetization and card acquisition system. They don't need to do anything else to get their bread.

Wiccan is a great card, but it's horrible when played along terrible cards (Quicksilver and Domino), that's what most people don't get. Also Wiccan cannot be your game plan, it should be just your bonus power if you curve out everything, but the deck cannot be dependent on him.

Well ProX can’t lockdown anything now, Nocturne can deal with Storm easily, You can sneak cards under Goose. There might be a version of lockdown-type deck coming with Kingpin, Juggernaut, Negasonic to get advantage of Move decks. But I think devs decided, that lockdown is not fun to play.

Steak tartare or as we call it in Poland „tatar”, is one of the most popular beef dishes in my country. It is served with egg yolk, diced onion and dilled pickles, salt and pepper. It’s being served as a sort of an appetizer/snack, when drinking straight vodka or as a full breakfast or supper dish. It is one of the staples of weddings menu. When I was young and was afraid to eat raw meat, my mom was frying a portion of tatar for myself. It’s delicious. Now I love the classic with raw beef, but sometimes I go for the fried version, just out of nostalgia.

Mailbag: Is SD not spending their money wisely? I’ve played games created by fewer people that are so well polished. I understand all the constant balance changes would be quite the task but just some simple QOL changes would make a huge difference. Locations popping up on PC that look like Mr. negative hit them and I’ve been noticing some weird effects going on in the bottom corner background while viewing my card collection. Competitive Snap sounds amazing but the barrier for entry is so steep. Im fairly new to the game and spent a lot of money to gain collection level. Im probably 6 months away from getting the rest of series 4 and 5 cards and thats being generous. Look at Pokémon, new players can take down a regional tournament for less than $50 and win $10K. Being competitive in Snap comes down to time and money.

Competitive snap can never happen. Game is too random, nobody would ever invest in trying to play marvel snap competitively, card games, unless they’re hearthstone, just don’t sell on a big competitive level. The poker analogy would work better if poker hadn’t been around for decades, not years, decades. Marvel snap is just “a fun card game with super heros.”

Get a Sous Vide machine! You can cook it pretty much whatever temp you want without the worry of bacteria. Just got to sear the burger after so it doesn't look weird. Though, if you don't fully trust your butcher (or you get the ground beef at a grocery store) probably safer to just go Medium Well or up. I'm not even sure if I'd trust a place like Friday's with less than Medium Well, but if you ever do go to a fancy place and get a burger, you can probably go whatever temp you like. Morton's isn't going to poison you

Regarding tournaments, "bans" are highly popular in most competitive games and if Marvel snap ever wants to be an e-sport or have serious competitive scene it needs to have such mechanic implemented. I just don't think we'll ever see marvel snap be anything more than a quick and fun mobile game, thats whats bringing most money to SD. Casual whales don't want snap to be balanced around and focused on highly competitive players.

Mailbag: I can't keep shaking the feeling that Zoo decks were originally made to have another play pattern, involving the Card That Shall Not Be Named (Firestar). For a little while, we kept receiving cards like Black Swan, that seemingly played into this very specific pattern. At the same time, with the lynchpin that was the Card That Shall Not Be Named, these cards didn't serve much of a purpose. Do you think this is tin foil hat territory, or is there something to this? Or was there another deck that had this happen, that really needed another card that it didn't get.

Arishem: still gives extra random card but change to +1 energy only if it's on deck or hand (maybe on board as well) this way it'll probably still gives a fun random deck, but reduces the annoying Loki synergy

Snap can not be competitive until the game explains more things to us the users. Order of operations for cards, stages and abilities are all very unclear. Sometimes cards work before stages, some times stages work before cards. Some times at the end of the match cards don't work like they should. The game can't be a serious competitive game until the game play is made more clear. It's so loose goosy and casual. Ben stole ideas from other successful board games and cards games to make a unique singular game. But I don't think him or the staff have the ability to make snap truly great and fully competitive. They only know how to steal other ideas from other games. They can't even balance well. They balance cards 3, 4, 5 times. Like wtf. And we just ha e to live with nerfed cards and lose our resources. They do not have the talent to do whatvyou want or need them to do. This game will always stay casual, because Ben and his team are casuals. Sorry.

Well the company doesn't have to make a competitive scene as that takes tons of money, and man power. Also The game is fun, and that's cool if the community runs comp that should suffice, because often competitive scenes have hurt or become problematic with the casual scene which is far more important. Especially when designing cards. Imo there aren't enough personalities to even warrant a comp scene either. Like there's no Toast or trump to be the face of snap. Perfect example he used was Dota; Yea you have extremely competitive communities with huge tournaments: Yet those are some of the most toxic, and unpleasant games , and ironically the people who keep dota, and dota tournaments alive is the casual audience because, they are the backbone of ANY game.

I still think releasing the stats for third parties to analyse would improve the community to no end. Real stats would be processed and you could make real analyses of the game. Communities would develop around the third parties more than just the experienced players that pay a bit more to use the 3P apps. Particularly when real rankings can be viewed and determined with real win rates.

Mailbag: Mystery Spotlight Cache. What do you think of the idea of having the Mystery Spotlight Cache not being random, but limited to using one card each per complete cycle. Im a near complete card owner, and in the last 18 mystery caches I've opened, I've got 4 x X23, 2 x Selene, 2 x Havok, 2 x ManThing and 2 x Echo. It's frustrating and logistically almost impossible to get a new card this way.
