As a professional fighter, one of his favorite tactics was the liver shot (both punch and kick), and he popularized its use in MMA. Bas probably won’t remember this story..: but, if you want an insight into his character read on: back in 2003 I was an early member of the mma site Sherdog. One day some other members were antagonizing me and making fun of me (for some reason that has since slipped my mind). I never returned an insult for their insult and simply apologized to them. The next day I got a private message from Bas Rutten saying that he saw that argument and liked that I didn’t respond back to them in anger… so he asked for my address and me mailed me, for free, his DVD/CD collection of his fight training series. I couldn’t believe it. A few days later in the mail I got the collection. He’s a good man

Hardest thing to do, also for me (in the past), is not to reply. I have been doing that for awhile now so its so much easier. People are people, they base their opinion of you based on one moment/comment you said or even a comment from an douchebag that sounded a little like yours, and because of that they react. You can never change that, there will always be people like that, but you can change yourself and how you deal with it. I visualize an angry toddler, works all the time, haha!

​@@darkoverllord you cant have only ex fighters on a commentary desk. anik is actually very good at what he is doing. he is supposed to take care of commercials and improvise on dead time. you need at least one person with journalism background for that role. bisping and bas would be a nice combination though since they both have crazy bar fight stories

Great story Bas. I grew up in a mining town in Australia and it seemed every weekend there was an altercation of some kind. I moved to the cities later in life and met people who have never had a fight. More often than not after the fight you would be sharing a beer in the bar. People ask me who I would least like to fight and I said you. You are what we call a true hard man. Someone who can really fight and take tremendous punishment. Best wishes to you and yours.

Hey Bas, you have a great channel and we are all big fans of yours. A suggestion just hit me. You should find someone who can illustrate cheap and simple animation and tell your story set to the animation. You have a lot of stories so that means you can have a lot of animations. And that means your channel will have plenty of good content.
