I love Bucks playful nature and he sure was a nice man! I loved him and his cool guitar when I was 3 yrs old watching Hee Haw. I didn't have a clue about these old shows or the extent of his talent and songwriting. I still very much enjoy his music and seeing these old clips.

@@brianfergus839 Yea, and that was the funkiest Gibson guitar I have ever seen. I think they had a Gibson endorsement going, and they told Gibson to change the pickup arrangement, and pickups themselves, from humbuckers to single coil. Did not look right at all. Fender must have sold a ton of telecasters because of dangerous Don. From the 50's to the 80's #1guitar Fender Telecaster, #2 Gibson Les Paul custom.

Why do both of Bucks´sons have different last names¿ It seems half the men either wear wigs or comb overs. I see this in all the old country western videos of singers. Some of the toupe´s look silly. You can see them in the Star Vista TV commercials for their music. I dont know how they could go out on stage wearing those silly toupe´s.

I worked for the Owens family at Buck's country radio station in Phoenix. Know the family well. Buddy Alan is his first and middle name....this was his stage name. Don Rich went from Buck's Ranch show to perform on HEE HAW from 1969 to 1974. Sadly he was killed in a motorcycle accident on California's Coastal high in July of 74. It did affect Buck for the rest of his life. Don was just as big a part of Buck's "sound" as the man himself. I never met or knew Don, but worked for Buck and family at one of his country radio stations over the years.

Interesting to see the changes in musical styles, fashion, etc. over the years on this long-running show. I agree with a commenter below who said this episode was too cheesy. I much prefer the early episodes when there was less cheese and more corn, i.e. old-fashioned home spun corn-pone humor. Still, I love Buck and Don and really appreciate their place in the musical heavens.

The Buck Owens Ranch Show was truly a family affair. One of Buck’s sons, Buddy Alan, was a featured singer, and another one, Mike Lynn, was the show’s announcer. You also had the Hager Twins, and singer Susan Raye was married to Buckaroos drummer Jerry Wiggins.

I think Don would have had a solo career if he had lived. Was it in their contracts that you had to have a hair helmet to play this show? It must have it's own part of the hole in the ozone layer from all that hair spray.

god, I mean, Buck Owens and Don Rich are sure some of my heroes, but boy! did they get carried away with the Cheese on this show. Some of those early ones kicked ass, but that "bird dog" shit was atrocious. hahaha.

+John Davey I hear ya. That hop-along cassidy bit with the stupid fake arrow-through-the-head gag was painful to watch... complete shit.

Fender wanted them back in exchange for a new set of guitars that they planned to give Buck, but Buck wanted to keep them and so the deal soured and Gibson stepped in.
