Follow the iconic dance craze that was "The Twist,” made famous by Chubby Checker from the sixties through today. “The Twist” first went to #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Chart in September of 1960. The music video incorporates footage of Chubby’s October 22, 1961 appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in the wake of “The Twist” having again gone to #1 on the Hot 100 earlier that year, a feat never equaled in the decades that followed.

I just saw Chubby Checker in concert yesterday. He is an entertainer to the max. Including his audience in singing, dancing and walking through the audience, and what turned out to be the blast of my summer...dancing with him on stage doing the twist! 💃

My grandmother played this for me while I was 6 she had it on a cassette tape it's something I'll always remember, I'm 18 now and I still love this song my grandmother passed away in 2017 overnight in a hospital after being airlifted it broke my heart so much knowing that I'll never be able to dance with her to this song again... I'll forever miss her.

Whats great about the twist is that its a pretty straightforward and easy dance to pull off. Meaning everyone on the dance floor can pick it up in minutes and even put their own little spin on it if desired. Fun song and dance which is now pretty much iconic. The scene in Madmen with Peggy twisting toward Pete was televised perfection.
