This is the kind of talk show we need in America. It puts all the guests at ease. Not since Carson has a host let guests shine as much as Norton does.

British shows are like this in general though. Notice they can also curse(maybe not from this clip in particular.) There are a bunch of regulations on US television and it's overly "Structured" to be a certain way, almost as if everybody is putting on an act. And in a way, it is, whereas these British talk shows are more conversational. I think Craig Ferguson(who ironically wasn't even born in America) was the closest thing to these foreign talk shows.

Graham's Show and Jonathan Ross' show which was in the same slot (U2 were on that a few years ago) before he moved to ITV goes out on BBC1 at 10:35pm on Friday evenings. There's swearing, sexual discussion and the guests are allowed to drink (Graham does). He and Jonathan Ross pull the same trick that Michael Parkinson came up with which was to keep the guests together so they all interact and are all part of the show.

Craig Ferguson is the only American late/talk show that puts guests at ease I think but he's leaving soon..He doesn't script it and he doesn't need to put on skits and games just to fill in the time with his guests (like all the other late shows).

My grandfather suffered from glaucoma for over 30 years until his death last year. At one point about 6-7 years ago, he went completely blind. It's a subtle disease of the eye, caused by a buildup of pressure inside it. This pressure can damage the optic nerve, leading to a loss of vision. It was difficult to detect it as well as treat it many years ago, so it is why we watched him slowly lose his sight over a long period of time. It also can give increased sensitivity to bright light - which for someone like Bono must be a daily struggle, what with all the flash photography and flickering stage lights of their shows. So the sunglasses are serving a very practical purpose, literally helping him to 'live in the spotlight'.

Yeah, and his "I just think they're cool, and I think Bono looks cool in 'em" definitely sounded a little pointed, like, "OK, time to stop making light of his medical condition, Graham; not cool." Graham already had a whole bit worked out, though, so decided to soldier on in spite of Bono's revelation. Kinda awkward - guess not planning out every question and basic response like the average late night show occasionally bites back.

DanHarkless ﴾Halloween videos, YTPs, & more﴿ You make two mistakes here. Firstly, Robert made that remark as self-deprecating humour, not to defend Bono against Graham. Secondly, nearly every topic of conversation on this show is prepared and agreed upon beforehand. Bono certainly knew Graham was going to bring out those sunglasses, and Graham probably knew that Bono would talk about glaucoma. Even if that was a surprise, Graham certainly didn’t offend Bono. I don’t know why you would think that.

It really looked like that. I mean, obviously the Graham's questions and Bono's answer were negotiated, but Robert's remark was just really nice. My relatives went blind when they were old, nothing funny abt that(( I also liked how the band member did not reveal the reason, but tried to turn it into a joke (you need sunglasses when you get famous), it was a nice thing too.

I have to say this about Bono and the U2 boys: for all their pretensions, they really are fundamentally nice guys with their hearts in the right place. I remember my mom getting annoyed that they had Borat show up for their Kennedy Center Honors piece, but I'm glad they take themselves less and less seriously as the years go on while still being committed to the things they believe in. All that is to say, I don't know if most rock bands their stature would be so OK with people making fun of how they look or looked, so it's cool that they laugh right along. The fact that he explains about the glaucoma but also makes fun of himself by pretending to milk it for sympathy and trying on the goofy glasses means people feel sympathetic for him but also feel permission to laugh along afterwards.

While Graham was poking a little fun at their early pics, it was obviously good natured, and THEY put them out there!

This was hilarious. The great conditioner shortage!! 😂 It shows that Bono is, in his own words, truly a "human person". Also, just as hilarious, was Robert Duvall during all the hilarity .. His expression was like "Who the hell are these morons and what the hell am I doing here??" ! Either he's deaf or he's got no sense of humour whatsoever. 😙

My former acting professor is a BAMF actor who always wore sunglasses, and people would whisper that he was so pretentious and “Who wears sunglasses indoors?” Etc...but he revealed privately that he too had glaucoma and THATs why he wore them. So nowadays - as a young person being monitored for glaucoma myself - I don’t question people’s reason for wearing sunglasses or whatever; I just let them live.

maybe it's just me cause i was a teen when Achtung baby came out, but to me it's an iconic album of that era and will be. maybe not songs you would listen to regularly, maybe not even songs that hold up to the the test of time, but the music on that album is a testament to a band that before was already big, but that album is something different. Well, "one" is on it, and I guess that will be played till the end of time, however the other songs and the sound of the album is just incredible.
