The fact that Dan Marino was bested by Tony Eason in the AFC title game irrevocably damages his legacy.
@rngfootball759Күн бұрын
Probably the only highlight of Tony Eason's career was beating the Dolphins in the AFC title game. The super bowl was extremely forgetful. He had a good 1986 season but was awful after that (poor play and injuries)

This is very similar to what happened in 2002 at Istanbul's airport after Turkey finished 3rd at the World Cup. For some context, Turkey was only making its 2nd ever appearance at the World Cup (their only other appearance was in 1954) & no one expected them to do much even though they had made the knockout stage in a major tournament for the first time at the previous Euros. However the team went on a crazy run, making it out of the group stage & beating Japan & Senegal to get a semifinal with Brazil which they barely lost. They then beat South Korea in the 3rd/4th place game & the Turkish fans were absolutely ecstatic. Even though airport security knew that there would be a large crowd to greet the team when they returned home, they did not anticipate that nearly 200,000 people would be there. In fact there were so many people that all commercial flights into & out of Istanbul's airport were either significantly delayed or had to be rerouted to the smaller airport on the Asian side of the city. Like in this story, the Turkish fans started throwing bottles, rocks & flares at the plane. Things got so out of hand that the Turkish military had to be called in & armored tanks had to escort the team's plane to the gate. As for how Turkey did after this World Cup, they haven't qualified for the World Cup since then though they have a good chance of doing so for 2026 given the expanded tournament which will feature 48 teams.

I firmly believe that if Miami did their job and won that game, Super Bowl XX would've set viewership records that would still be standing. Also don't forger the AWFUL Super Bowl music video New England had after this game.

The reason why the Bears matched up better with the Patriots? Miami was the only team to beat the Bears that season. To be honest, the Bears wanted a chance to avenge that loss, but of course the Patriots ruined that chance.

If the Bears had faced the Dolphins in the SB, they would have won the SB In my opinion as a Patriots fan because they would have been at their best and I think that Walter Payton would have run wild against the Dolphins run defense.
@akbarlebowitz815120 сағат бұрын
@@bourque801 Also, Jim McMahon did not start that MNF game. Defense would not have foolishly blitzed Marino like they did in that game. Buddy Ryan was told by Jimbo Covert, you do and he'll (Marino) kill you.
@matthewdaley74618 сағат бұрын
@akbarlebowitz8151 The Bears, were lucky to get one SB, the very next season, run-first, offenses became obsolete, and, they got completely exposed, (twice), by, "The Hogs," the 49ers finished them off, once, and, for, all, in 1988.

Honestly the Pats had better defense than the Dolphins. While Marino would have help the Dolphins do better than Eason, the Bears likely would have drop 50 on them.

I was an employee at the airport,(a rental car company) at the time and was there that night, while it was wild and a tiny bit destructive, I never got the impression anyone was in danger or fearing for their safety. The only real casualty I recall was the flimsy fence that separated us from the plane, it died a quick death as soon as the airplane came to a halt. Before the Pats arrived it was a party atmosphere with singing and, yeah, lotsa beer. Squish the Fish!

@davidroberts72822 сағат бұрын
Again, Matt, as has been stated ad nauseam by countless commentators, writers, fans and analysts, that's why you play the games and sometimes even the biggest, unexpected upsets can occur. Lets be honest, too even if New England had only made 3 post-season appearances until 1985 miracle run, for the previous decade since 1976, they had only one losing season (an atrocious, God-awful 2-14 campaign in 1981) they had enjoyed 5 consecutive winning seasons from 1976-80, 82, a .500 8-8 season in 1983, another 9-7 season in 1984. The reason why they didn't make more playoffs more back then was due often to bad luck, being in one of NFL's then-toughest divisions in the old AFC East with competitive Bills and Jets teams of the late 70's/early 80's, and the NFL only having a 5-team playoff seeding back then. You have quite a few notable AFC/NFC teams from mid-70's to even the late 80's who finished with 10-6, 9-7, or even 11-5 with 1985 Denver Broncos who missed the post-season.
As a 53 year Pat's fan and 26 year season ticket holder, I remember this one!! Squish the Fish!! But Berry the Bears was never going to happen. Once went to a game at Foxboro Stadium where they arrested so many fans the paddy wagons were full and the extra perps were handcuffed to the chain link fences outside the concourse. You didn't take women and children to Foxboro Stadium.
@davidroberts72822 сағат бұрын
Yet in spite of all its deficiencies, clear and obvious design flaws, faulty, flawed construction lay-out, plus the endless, ongoing clogged, backed-up toilets and a chronic lack of hot water for tired, worn-down players after games, Foxboro Stadium still managed to last 31 seasons as an NFL stadium and was where two generations of Pats.fans witnessed their team make two SB appearances. Not a bad run for a $2.8 million, hastily-built complex that was built before the 1971 season in less then 3-4 months and was the home field for a former original AFL team that played in 4-5 different stadiums in its first decade of existence.

@joshuashamai287621 сағат бұрын
I don’t think anyone would have stopped Chicago in Super Bowl XX. The fact the Pats actually scored 10 points was a feat in itself since they shutout the Rams and Giants in the NFC side of the playoffs.
@matthewdaley74621 сағат бұрын
From, 1985-1988, every Champion caught a significant break, the, 1985 Bears didn't play the Dolphins, the, 1986 Giants didn't play the Bears, the, 1987 Washington franchise didn't play the 49ers, and, the, 1988 49ers didn't have to play Walter Payton.

@joshuashamai2876 If anything, that Game showed why they were never going to be a, Dynasty, Jim McMahon made a bunch of truly horrible gaffes, that, fortunately, resulted in zero points, it only took one season for, "The Hogs," to totally expose them, and, by the 1989 season, they were completely done.

Am I correct in believing that you're now going to do a video about the game in Tampa in 1969?
I was very young and didn't fully appreciate this march to the big game by my hometown team. So in retrospect, knowing I'd be celebrating Super Bowls during most of my adult life, I would have been fine giving this one up so the American people could have had a great storyline with Marino vs the Bears D. The Patriots really lucked out with the weather, as it neutralized Marino throwing with a wet ball and emphasized the strong Pats run game.
@matthewdaley74619 сағат бұрын
In that same vein, few things get my goat more than, fair-weather, fans, early during the 2005 season, the Patriots were, clearly, well on their way to their first home loss in three years, and, despite, a strict policy barring, re-entry, the Game was barely, half-finished, and, you could see their, "loyal," fans streaming up the flights of steps, and, down, the exit ramps, it was horrifically disgusting, it was, that's that.
@CharlesBukowski-m1o13 сағат бұрын
It should have been the Dolphins vs Bears in that Super Bowl. The former were the only team that SHUT the mouths of that friggin big mouthed team in one of Dan Marino's greatest moments: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIiYg6Geaph7ndksi=3POLnrDc6p78fNzw
