Imagine scheduling an event for Super Bowl Weekend at the same venue at the Super Bowl that is not the Super Bowl. Imagine if, this year, the New Orleans Pelicans wanted to play a game at the Superdome on February 8 just one day before Super Bowl LIX. Well, in 1990, that's exactly what LSU basketball tried to do, as they tried to host a game at the Superdome just 24 hours before the Super Bowl. You can imagine how that went

Fun fact: The Superdome did host an NBA team for its first few years of existence as it was the home arena for the Jazz from 1975-1979 before the Jazz relocated to Salt Lake City. The Superdome has even held a few MLB exhibition games with the last being a two game series between the Twins & the Cubs in April 1999.

Another scheduleing conflict is that New Orleans was supposed to host last year's Super bowl but got moved to this year after the NFL expanded the regular season because it would've interfered with Mardi gras

Good thing New Orleans got an NBA size Sports and Entertainment Arena next door to the Superdome, but they did not get no major league sports tenant until 2002 when they got the original Charlotte Hornets and become the New Orleans Hornets

One difference was that the 1989 game played at the Superdome was played six days after Super Bowl XXIII.

The Atlanta Hawks briefly had game at the Georgia Dome for lsrger events while State Farm Arena was being built after they git rid of the Omni. Otherwise they played on Georgia Tech's arena during that period.

Not only did they move the Notre Dame game back they also played on Super Sunday anyway against eventual national champ UNLV in Baton Rouge, future #1 picks Larry Johnson and Shaq duking it out (LSU won 107-105)

San Francisco was definitely the better team for sure but Denver didn't play well cause if they had of played better they still would have lost easily yes but like 41--20 instead of a 55--10 massacre

What incentive...the game was for charity ie HUGE FREAKING TAX WRITE-OFF for the NFL cooperating. This couid have worked. They couid have done it on Friday night so enough time to flip the venue. Could have been in prine time. Tons of cross promotion. CBS is in the last year of NBA coverage But yeah in every other big venue except for Glenndale (where the fieid isn't in place until game day anyway doing something like this the day before is totally not doable

Las Vegas's Allegiant Stadium also uses a roll-in field. The Raiders and Super Bowl LVIII (and likely any subsequent Super Bowl in LV) use natural grass while UNLV and the Las Vegas Bowl use synthetic turf.

NFL stadiums with a fixed or retractable roof host the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament. But of course, it’s well after football season.
